GRADE 19 LOCATION OF POSITION MDH - Talbot County Health Department 215 Bay Street Easton, MD 21601 POSITION DUTIES The main purpose of the Environmental Health Specialist Programs Supervisor is to assist in the promotion of all aspects of Environmental Health while enforcing all applicable State and Local Environmental Health laws and regulations.
The Environmental Health Specialist Program Supervisor will be responsible for monitoring and engaging with the delegated programs from the Maryland Department of the Environment to the Talbot County Health Department's Office of Environmental Health. Programs include, but are not necessarily limited to the Well Program, Land Development Program, Building Permits Program, Open Burning Program, and Bathing Beaches Program.
This position supports the mission of the Talbot County Health Department by which is to promote and improve the health and safety of Talbot County residents and visitors by ensuring the cleanliness and safety of the environment, water and food through its operations. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Determined by the Maryland Board of Environmental Health Specialists under the licensing requirements for Environmental Health Specialists.

Experience: Three years of experience performing inspections and investigations to ensure compliance with environmental health laws and regulations, including one year in a supervisory capacity.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute possession of a Master of Public Health or Master of Science degree from an accredited college or university for one year of the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Environmental Engineering classifications or Environmental Engineering specialty codes in the Engineering and Natural Resources field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS The desired candidate should possess the following:
  • Experience/knowledge of the Annotated Code of Maryland and Health General Articles related to well and onsite sewage disposal systems
  • Experience in training of staff employees
  • Experience/knowledge of public water system design and public pool designs
  • Experience/knowledge of food service facility regulations
  • Experience providing excellent customer service to the public
  • Experience in managing budgets and grants
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS 1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess and maintain a current license as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist from the Maryland Board of Environmental Health Specialists.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland. SELECTION PROCESS
