About the Position
This is an advance level professional level work relating to the analysis of electrical engineering construction plans, schematics, and specifications for compliance with applicable codes, ordinances, standards, and regulations. Incumbentsmay assume a lead role in reviewing and examining the more difficult and complex engineering plans that require the application of advanced engineering principles. Assignments affordopportunities for extensive independent judgment and technical evaluation under the general supervision. Assignmentsare performed in accordance with established engineering principles and departmental policies and procedures.
About The Agency
The Department of Permitting, Inspections and Enforcement (DPIE) is responsible for coordinating and enforcing standards that control what goes on before, during, and after construction. Staff from nine agencies, who work cooperatively on permit processing, business licensing, plan review, inspection and enforcement comprise Department of Permitting, Inspections, and Enforcement. The Mission of the Department of Permitting, Inspections, and Enforcement is to promote economic development in Prince George's County and protect the safety of County residents, businesses, and visitors through efficient permitting, inspection and licensing services to ensure compliance with established building, zoning and property standards codes.
Examples of Work
- Reviews plans, documents, and projects to determine if they meet required laws, regulations and ordinances for electrical safety in accordance with National Electrical Code and county code subtitle 9.
- Reads, analyzes, andinterprets engineering plans, blueprints, specifications, and feasibility studies and test results tobecome familiar and knowledgeable about the nature, scope, anddetails of constructionprojects, identify problems/discrepancies in the initial design, and to determine compliance/non-compliance with established codes, policies, standards, and specifications.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the engineering field determined by the requirements of the position (e.g., civil, environmental, transportation, architectural, mechanical, fire protection, agricultural, agronomy, chemical, industrial, construction)
- Four (4) years of progressive professional experience in the appropriate engineering field, to include at least two (2) years of lead/supervisory experience
- A Professional Engineer (PE) License is required
Preferred Qualifications:
Four (4) years of experience in electrical plan review
ICC electrical plan review certification
