About the Position and Department
The Equipment Mechanic may be appointed at either level depending upon qualifications and experience. This position is in the Operations Department and reports directly to the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor and performs diagnostic and repair work in the maintenance of light, medium, and heavy transportation and field equipment.
The Operations Department is responsible for the operations, maintenance and repair of all Otay Water District facilities and equipment. Facilities include pipelines, reservoirs, pump stations, lift stations, and a reclamation plant for potable water and recycled water distribution, wastewater collections, and wastewater reclamation. The Operations Department has a staff of approximately 57 employees.

- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on fleet vehicles and equipment.
- Diagnose and repair engines, transmissions, electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems.
- Operate diagnostic equipment and maintain accurate service records.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate with other staff on scheduling and prioritizing repairs.

Both levels require a Valid California Class A Driver's License with air brake, tank and hazardous materials endorsements within ninety (90) days of appointment and Air Brake Repair Certificate within one (1) year of appointment.
Both levels require a High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Equipment Mechanic I
Two (2) years of experience in general mechanical or equipment maintenance, including experience repairing light and medium diesel and gasoline powered equipment.
Equipment Mechanic II
Four years of experience in general mechanical or equipment maintenance, including experience repairing light, medium and heavy equipment. Experience with CHP Biennial Inspection of Terminal (BIT) inspections and knowledge of APCD regulations and requirements is highly desirable. Fleet service experience is desirable.
Both levels will be subject to random drug testing during employment.
This is an hourly, non-exempt position.
