Position Summary:
Under general supervision, plans and participates in the construction, alteration, repair and maintenance of hospital structures, furniture, equipment, and fixtures made of wood or similar materials. Performs work to conform to quality standards and municipal codes, and with considerable technical independence in accordance with accepted trade practices and departmental policy.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
1. After review of blue prints or sketches/drawings of assignment, accurately estimates quantity and type of materials needed for carpentry work to be performed.
2. Performs construction and remodeling tasks including: demolition, layout and design, installation of footings and/or foundations, framing (metal stud and/or wood), drywall installation and repair (including grid, acoustical and specialty ceilings), casework fabrication and installation, and finish carpentry.
Dismantles furniture and repairs, replaces damaged parts, and stains/varnishes as appropriate.
4. Constructs various items such as bookcases, tables, shelves, boxes, cabinets, etc.
5. Inspects tools and machinery of-the-trade, and mechanical equipment for defects and repairs whenever possible.
6. Adheres to current rules and regulations related to building so that systems pass inspection the first time.
7. Completes work orders, record material utilized on jobs and other required documentation.
8. May also perform general maintenance and repair tasks as required.
9. Performs other related duties as required and directed.
Qualifications:
Required:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Training beyond high school in related programs/advanced training in building.
Four years of related experience.
Journeyman's carpentry license.
Valid state driver's license.
Driving record must be within the approved insurance company's regulations.
Preferred:
Previous experience in health care industry.
