Purpose of Role:
Reporting to Mine Manager, the Drill and Blast Superintendent, will be responsible for managing Drill and Blasting program for Copper World Project.
Role Accountabilities:
Leadership and Personnel Management
- Team Leadership: The Superintendent is responsible for leading, managing, and mentoring the entire drill and blast crew. This includes hiring, training, and performance evaluations to build a competent and safety-focused team.
- Communication and Coordination: They must effectively communicate with their team, as well as with other departments such as mine operations, engineering, and maintenance. This ensures all drilling and blasting work is aligned with the overall mine plan and production schedule.
Operational Planning and Execution
- Strategic Planning: The Superintendent develops and implements detailed drill and blast plans that maximize ore extraction while minimizing waste and environmental impact. This involves designing blast patterns, calculating explosive quantities, and determining timing sequences.
- Field Supervision: They are a hands-on manager, overseeing daily operations to ensure that drilling is accurate and blasting is performed according to plan. This includes monitoring equipment and making real-time adjustments to address changing geological conditions or operational challenges.
- Safety and Compliance: This is the most critical responsibility. The Superintendent ensures strict adherence to all company safety protocols, as well as federal and state regulations, including MSHA (Mine Safety and Health Administration) guidelines. They are responsible for the safe storage, handling, and transportation of explosives.
Financial and Resource Management
- Budgeting: The Superintendent manages the budget for all drilling and blasting operations. This involves monitoring costs for equipment, explosives, fuel, and labor to ensure the department stays within its financial targets.
- Equipment Management: They oversee the maintenance and proper use of all drilling and blasting equipment, including drill rigs and other machinery, to maximize their lifespan and operational uptime. They also ensure that necessary supplies and consumables are properly inventoried and available.
Minimum Qualifications and Education:
- A bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a related field is preferred
- A minimum of 8 years of experience in open-pit mining, with at least 5 years in a supervisory role in drill and blast operations.
- Be able to obtain all regulatory blasting licenses
- Strong knowledge of industry best practices, safety procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in drill and blast software and mine planning tools.
- Ability to work & multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
- Can move over uneven terrain
- The ability to work in different environmental conditions.
- Positive work ethic
- Maintain a drug and alcohol-free workplace.
- Possess a valid Driver's License.
- Ability to lead, motivate, manage and grow the team
- Have reliable personal transportation to the site location (transportation at the site will be in company vehicles)

Employee will be expected to drive a company vehicle, rental vehicle and/or his/her own vehicle in the course of performing the job, Employee must be able to perform the physical functions of operating a motor vehicle, including use of eyes, ears, arms, hands, legs, and feet. Employee must be able to prove that he/she has a current and valid driver's license.
