Who are we hiring?

The Architect will perform all phases of architectural work including planning, design and oversight of outside firms within The Madison Square Garden Company. The Architect, with structural engineering experience will be involved in both large and small renovations, alterations, restorations from the initial concept stage through to completion. The Architect will produce drawings and renderings for new build projects and renovations.

What will you do?

  • Develop renderings, detailed design drawings, and construction documents (CDs) for bidding, budgeting, and construction purposes.
  • Integrate structural considerations into architectural designs in collaboration with structural engineers.
  • Partner with the Sr. Director of Capital Projects to manage projects from concept to completion, ensuring innovative, high-quality, and functional designs.
  • Prepare feasibility reports, design proposals, and visual presentations.
  • Address design and construction challenges, particularly in Landmark and existing venues.
  • Ensure designs consider building usage, environmental impact, and operational functionality.
  • Oversee design firms and sub-consultants; lead internal and external design coordination efforts.
  • Manage design phases for projects ranging from room renovations to new venue construction.
  • Conduct stakeholder meetings to define project scope, team roles, and responsibilities.
  • Support database management of qualified design professionals and subcontractors.
  • Evaluate and interview potential architects, engineers, and subcontractors for ongoing and future projects.
  • Review design narratives, proposals, and cost estimates for alignment with project strategy.
  • Provide bid-day support, assist in value management, and resolve design-related issues or change orders.
  • Monitor architectural trends and incorporate innovative solutions to enhance venue performance and competitiveness.
  • Coordinate with legal and construction teams for designer agreements and compliance

What do you need to succeed?

  • A Licensed Architect with 8-10 years of experience in design and construction, including demonstrated structural coordination.
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture (B.Arch or equivalent).
  • Additional certification or coursework in Structural Engineering preferred.
  • Proven experience managing and delivering architectural projects; strong portfolio showcasing design and technical skills.
  • Excellent drawing and 3D visualization abilities; strong artistic and conceptual thinking.
  • Proficient in design and documentation software, including AutoCAD, Revit, BIM, and structural analysis tools.
  • Deep understanding of construction processes, project phases, and document management.
  • Strong attention to detail, visual awareness, and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to present ideas clearly and collaborate effectively in meetings.
  • Skilled in managing the design process with an understanding of commercial, contractual, and scheduling considerations.
  • Ability to inspire and lead design consultants to deliver innovative, high-quality, and cost-effective solutions.

Special Requirements?

  • Must be able to perform occasional building inspections, including hard-to-access areas such as rooftops, basements, crawl spaces, steel structures, theatre fly spaces, and back-of-house areas.
  • Ability to safely navigate uneven terrain, ladders, scaffolding, low-clearance spaces, and all other conditions typical of active construction sites.

Pay Range

$113,000-$180,000 USD
