POSITION TITLE: LAP Laborer - Carpet Cleaning

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The M&O Laborer Advancement Program (LAP) is designed to encourage growth in skills and knowledge in a pre-determined, non-licensed trade, thus earning experience applicable to senior trades eligibility. Experience credit earned through on-the-job training, off-site training and/or certification and demonstrated proficiency in pre-identified skills appropriate to the non-licensed trade properly develops employees in select laborer position so that they will have the experience and qualifications to assist senior trades staff at an advanced level and have the experience and qualifications necessary to be eligible to apply for senior trades vacancies in specified trades. Below are the levels of the LAP:

LABORER, LEVEL D1: To assist in the installation, maintenance, repair, preparation and clean-up at various locations as assigned by senior trades staff; upon successful performance in position, eligible to participate in the Laborer Advancement Program.

SEMI-SKILLED LABORER, LEVEL D2: To have successfully performed as a D1 Laborer for 12 consecutive months (in an assigned and pre-approved LAP trades position) successfully completing 1st level on-the-job and/or classroom training/certification criteria as defined by the Supervisor, and successfully demonstrating new capabilities by passing the physical, written and skills tests.

SKILLED LABORER, LEVEL D3: To have successfully advanced to D2 semi-skilled Laborer for 12 consecutive months (in an assigned and pre-approved LAP trades position) successfully completing 2nd level on-the-job and/or classroom training/certification criteria as defined by the Supervisor, and successfully demonstrating new capabilities by passing the physical, written and skills tests.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Incumbent must achieve the following outcomes with or without reasonable accommodation:

  • Utilizes new skills achieved at level I and/or II to assist senior trades staff as assigned.
  • Complies with M&O Standards of Conduct.
  • Performs necessary tasks as requested by the senior trades supervisor or senior trades staff.
  • Collects, sorts, arranges and prepares materials, tools and equipment as necessary for each job.
  • Loads, unloads, delivers and disperses supplies and equipment.
  • Assists in all phases of skilled operation while under the direct supervision.
  • Utilizes a variety of hand and power tools following established procedures.
  • Drives a variety of vehicles, transporting materials to and from job sites.

DUTIES: In addition to the essential functions of this job, the incumbent must perform the following duties:

  • Complies with state-approved Code of Ethics of the Education Profession and upholds and enforces rules, administrative directives and regulations, school board policies, and local, state and federal regulations.
  • Articulates and facilitates the implementation of the mission and values of the Albuquerque Public Schools.
  • Safeguards confidentiality of privileged information.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate and complete records and reports as required by law, state directives, District policy and administrative regulations.
  • Shares the responsibility for the supervision and care of District inventory, proper and safe use of facilities, equipment and supplies, and reports safety hazards promptly.
  • Maintains professional relationships and works cooperatively with employees, the community and other professionals.
  • Maintains professional competence through individual and staff training, in-service educational activities and self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Attends and/or conducts staff meetings and participates on committees within area of responsibility.
  • Performs other tasks related to area of responsibilities as requested or assigned by an immediate supervisor.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Flexibility, organization, decision-making and problem solving skills.
  • Interpersonal skills with diverse populations in-person and on the telephone.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work on multiple projects.
  • Computer, English and basic mathematics skills.
  • Knowledge of installation, maintenance, modification, preparation, clean-up and repair at construction sites.
  • Proficient in the use of hand and power tools.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid New Mexico Drivers License with insurable driving record.
