  • Supervises parks maintenance staff in skilled and semi-skilled tasks to achieve desired goals in the areas of building maintenance, parks maintenance, and construction projects.
  • Supervises and oversees the performance of general manual work for the Maintenance Division including performing a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance and operation of buildings, grounds, parks, and recreation structures.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot various problems whether it is electrical, plumbing, mechanical, carpentry, etc. Provide ground maintenance work, cutting of grass area, shrubbery, trees and floral displays of park construction and related projects.
  • Provide preventive maintenance procedures to assure proper care of equipment.
  • Repair of existing, and construction of new Park and Recreation Department ground facilities.
  • Repair and replace worn plumbing fixture, such as but not limited to, water heaters, lavatories, sinks, showers, faucets, and washers.
  • Operate a variety of special and standard construction and maintenance equipment, such as front-end loader, trucks, air compressors, tractors, digging machines and other automotive equipment and machines.
  • Perform rough carpentry tasks, finished concrete work minor, welding and fabrication throughout the city, electrical repairs and install new additions to the electrical system as required.
  • Apply herbicide for weed control.
  • Responsible for set up of equipment and material for special events, including Trail of Lights which involves lights repair, changing bulbs, storing, and unloading of the lights and materials as well.
  • Perform maintenance and be knowledgeable of swimming pool equipment, pumps, and chemicals.
  • Clean grounds, ponds, swimming pools paths, playground equipment, walks, and maintains these areas.
  • Maintain detailed records and reports of turf maintenance activities. Initiate and/or approve requisitions, work orders, and schedules to ensure proper coordination of activities.
  • Monitor and assist with the annual operating budget to ensure expenses remain within budget allocations.
  • Write specifications and provide technical assistance in the purchase of necessary equipment.
  • Ability to be work successfully in extreme hot and/or extreme cold temperatures; excessive humidity; slippery and uneven walking surfaces, excessive noise, and other extreme conditions such as noxious fumes, moving heavy machinery, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and/or required.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED equivalent, 3-5 years' experience in repair or maintenance work with at least one in parks and recreation; Valid AR Driver's License; pesticide application license desired. Knowledge of use of and operating standards of equipment and tools used in park and recreation maintenance. Skills in recruiting, supervising, training, monitoring, evaluating and motivating personnel. Interpersonal skills to resolve conflict and work with supervisors, officials, employees, members, and the public. Knowledge of safe use, mixing and application of chemicals and commercial products. Ability to effectively communicate on a one-on-one basis with others. Ability to maintain effective and harmonious working relationships with other employees, department officials and the public. Ability to report to work each scheduled day, and on time.
