Junior Architectural Designer (Freelance - Part-Time or Full-Time) Employer: Los Angeles, CA, US (remote possible) Location: Fri, Aug 22 '25 Posted on: $30 - $80hourly Pay: Junior Designer (Freelance - Part-Time or Full-Time) Location: Los Angeles, CA (Fabrication local; remote/hybrid design work possible) Engagement: Freelance, Part-Time or Full-Time Project Duration: September 2025 - August 2026 About the Role: AENARA is a multidisciplinary design studio devoted to advancing technologies supporting human exploration and habitation beyond Earth. With a specific focus on construction technologies, AENARA supports the development of new research in architectural robotics, systems supporting crews in Earth-independent environments, and in space architecture. We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Junior Designer to support the design and documentation of a large-scale, internationally touring exhibition piece. This role is ideal for early-career designers with a strong technical foundation and a desire to gain hands-on experience in fabrication-oriented architecture, installation design, or large-scale art. You will work closely with senior designers and fabricators to develop design details, 3D models, and drawing sets, and to support production coordination for components fabricated in Los Angeles and shipped globally. Key Responsibilities: Support the development of design documentation, including 3D models and 2D drawings for fabrication and assembly. Assist in preparing shop drawings and diagrams for internal and external coordination. Participate in digital prototyping and rapid fabrication workflows. Collaborate with fabricators, engineers, and external vendors to track updates and support file readiness for production. Contribute to material research and assembly sequencing documentation. Maintain clear, organized files and communication with the project team. Required Qualifications: 1-4 years of experience in architecture, industrial design, exhibition design, or a related field. Proficiency in 3D modeling and drawing software (Rhino required; Grasshopper, SolidWorks, or Fusion 360 a plus). Strong foundational understanding of fabrication methods and materials, including 3D printing, CNC milling, or laser cutting. Experience preparing drawing sets and documentation for custom components. Strong attention to detail and organization, with the ability to work under deadlines. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture, Industrial Design, Interior Design, or Engineering. Hands-on experience with physical model-making, prototyping, or fabrication coordination. Familiarity with large-scale installation, furniture, or art fabrication. Interest in the intersection of design, technology, and fabrication. Additional Notes: Must be available for communication and coordination with a Los Angeles-based fabrication team.
