Job Description
The Painter helps keep BYU-Idaho's campus looking its best by maintaining painted surfaces across university buildings, housing, and other facilities. This role involves a wide variety of interior and exterior projects, including painting, staining, varnishing, lacquering, street striping, and surface repairs such as sheetrock and woodwork. The painter plays an important part in both new construction and ongoing maintenance, contributing to a safe, well-cared-for, and welcoming environment for students, employees, and visitors.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Experience:
- Two to three years of experience using a variety of painting methods on a variety of surfaces
- General construction experience and knowledge
- General maintenance and repair experience and knowledge
- Experience working with hand tools and basic power tools
- Competency in and awareness of OSHA safety standards
Skills:
- Plan, schedule, and complete work within deadlines
- Use airless and HVLP type spray equipment including gas powered parking lot striper
- Understand blueprints and layout plans
- Work with chemicals typical to the paint industry
- Safely erect and climb ladders and scaffolding
- Safely lift 75 lbs.
- Troubleshoot and repair damage to many different surfaces

Work Schedule
Regular Schedule: Monday -Friday 8am-5pm
Weekend / Holiday / On Call: Occasional on call and weekend work as needed
Travel: Minimal
