Description

The System Design Engineer will be responsible for leadership of engineering design projects in support of the Clean Factory Automation Division. This position will work closely with customers, suppliers, project managers and other stakeholders in developing solutions, designing products, and implementing solutions. The role requires technical expertise in the development and design phase, leadership expertise in managing the project budget and timeline as well as suppliers as well as the ability to work with the engineering team in Japan and the US to align with internal design rules as well as external design requirements as required by the customers such as UL and Semi standards. Assists with development of installation and operating procedures for developed products

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

DEVELOPMENT AND DESIGN

Develop and prepare comprehensive mechanical/electrical designs and technical drawings from initial concepts through manufacturing and final assembly

Create, modify, and update drawings that adhere to industry standards and best practices based on manufacturing feedback, testing results, and customer requirements.

Develop the make/buy decision-making process and partners with purchasing and vendors to deliver the desired products

Serve as the primary technical resource and knowledge expert for current design systems while utilizing internal/external resources for complex design consulting when dealing with complex design challenges.

Maintain accurate and current design documentation and revision control

Create installation and operation documents to support developed products and systems.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Schedule and coordinate design review meetings with cross-functional teams to enhance collaboration, develop product features/changes, and to resolve technical design issues.

Create comprehensive meeting minutes documenting decisions, action items, and project milestones

Drive project execution from concept to completion, ensuring adherence to timelines and financial objectives/constraints.

Create customer and internal presentations to keep internal and external stakeholders informed of the project status

Completes project closeout documents and organizes project records as well as completing a detailed project lessons learned review.

EXECUTION AND SUPPORT

Utilize GD&T principles and complete DFM reviews to create a manufacturing/install process.

Travel to vendors and suppliers to support manufacturing and quality progress/issues.

Visit customer locations to supervise automation system installations and commissioning

Troubleshoot field issues and provide technical support during system deployment

Provide support to service team on developing PM processes, service and spare parts support/plans.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Bachelors degree in mechanical and/or electrical engineering or related field; minimum three (3) years experience as a Mechanical Engineer in an industrial/engineering/automation environment or equivalent combination of education and experience. Design Experience utilizing Fusion360 or AutoCad required, SolidWorks experience preferred.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Strong ability to develop system designs of complex automated systems from basic concepts using engineering principles.

Knowledge of metalworking processes and manufacturing process experience

Mechanical assembly experience with hands on prototype development experience a plus.

Knowledge of sound engineering practices and industry standards with a commitment to adhering to applicable standards and best practices.

Familiarity in safety system design with experience in assessing safety circuits to confirm devices and architecture comply with relevant standards and achieve expected Performance Level.

Knowledge of basic robotic operations, including mechanical, electrical, and software interfacing.

Understanding of, and experience with, conveying and material handling equipment is considered an asset.

High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

Ability to work independently

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $115000.00/hr.
