The Opportunity

WSDOT is currently seeking a skilled Maintenance Mechanic in Union Gap, WA. This position's primary objective is to maintain and extend the life of WSDOT facility assets. Knowledge and skill in building construction trades are required to properly maintain/repair facilities and provide a safe work environment for staff. This position will provide a service that reflects WSDOT Strategic Plan goal areas of Inclusion, Workforce Development and Practical Solutions.

What to Expect

Among the varied responsibilities held within this role, the Maintenance Mechanic 2 will:

  • Maintain and repair interior and exterior of buildings including roofs, walls, flooring, and ceilings.
  • Maintain and repair building utility systems including plumbing, HVAC, domestic water, drainage and electrical.
  • Maintain and repair facility sites including landscape, paved areas, and sidewalks.
  • Remodeling WSDOT facilities to current City, County and State standards.
  • Take part in snow and ice removal around the site.
  • Encourage and promote the safety of him/herself and all employees.
  • Plan, schedule, and budget for anticipated work, staffing and equipment to meet variable workload and projects for facility customers.

Qualifications

To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:

Facilities Maintenance Expertise: At least three years of hands-on experience performing facility maintenance and repair, applying technical skills to ensure safe and effective building operations.

Driving & Safety Compliance: Demonstrated ability to maintain a valid driver's license and operate vehicles safely in compliance with regulations.

Chemical Handling & Safety Knowledge: Knowledge of and practical experience using hazardous or harsh chemicals, including the ability to interpret and apply Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) to ensure workplace safety.

Workplace Diversity & Collaboration: Experience contributing to and thriving in a diverse workforce, with the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively across varied backgrounds.

Leadership & Team Culture: Ability to lead by example, promote accountability, and foster a positive, respectful, and productive working environment.

It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Possess journey level status in construction trade or 2 years of experience as a Maintenance Mechanic 1
