DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will be responsible for supervising inmate work crews as they carry out various routine construction and maintenance tasks, which include lawn care, snow removal, janitorial services, and other general maintenance duties. You will plan and assign daily schedules for inmates, ensuring that all completed work is inspected for quality. Additionally, you will provide guidance on the operation and preventative maintenance of machinery and vehicles, while maintaining order and discipline among the inmates during their work assignments. It will be your duty to document inmate attendance for compensation purposes and to verify that all work assignments are fulfilled. Furthermore, you will either perform or assist other maintenance personnel in executing semi-skilled and skilled tasks across various trades, such as carpentry, plumbing, painting, electrical work, refrigeration, masonry, steam-fitting, and welding. You will also be responsible for issuing and inventorying all materials and tools necessary for completing work assignments, conducting searches of both inmates and work areas to ensure accountability for all items. Determining the required materials and tools for each task will be essential, and you will submit purchase requests as needed to facilitate the completion of work. Lastly, you may be assigned additional related duties as required.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week

  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday.

  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.

  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Four years of experience performing building maintenance, construction, or general trades work; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
