The City of Appleton is accepting applications for the full-time, Master Electrician. The purpose of this position is coordinating and executing installation, repairs, replacement, troubleshooting and preventive maintenance of facility, parks, and aquatic facility electrical systems, including but not limited to, indoor lighting systems, main power distribution systems and panel boards, stand-by generator and UPS systems, outdoor facility lighting, pole lighting, security and fire alarm notification panels and systems, construction projects, water pumping systems, kitchen equipment and HVAC systems. Responds to emergency power failures and emergency back-up systems. Monitors and tests various electrical systems. Locates electrical underground wiring for various projects.

This position responds to emergency situations as needed. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Facilities Manager.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Coordinate and execute repairs on indoor lighting systems.
  • Perform maintenance installation, replacement, repair and troubleshooting for all electrical systems.
  • Perform routine inspections on stand-by generator systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair fire and security alarm systems.
  • Coordinates UPS system maintenance and inspections.
  • Coordinates and executes preventive maintenance inspections and repairs to City facilities and grounds.
  • Coordinate and execute repair on all Main Power Distribution Systems and Panel Boards.
  • Coordinate and execute repair on all outdoor facility and grounds lighting signs, parking areas and security lighting.
  • Coordinate installation of electrical services for construction projects such as power upgrades, new installations, etc.
  • Responds to emergency power failures and emergency back-up
  • Coordinate and execute repairs on outdoor lighting systems including ball field lighting.
  • Coordinate and execute repairs in line voltage of kitchen equipment.
  • Coordinate inspections for contractor performed work in renovation and new construction projects.
  • Coordinate and execute repair to line voltage for all HVAC, hot water distribution and other mechanical systems.
  • Maintains regular punctual and predictable attendance, works overtime and extra hours as required.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Performs maintenance, installation and repair for all facility generators.Requires considerable experience as an electrician/maintenance worker and the necessary training beyond the high school level to have attained a master electrician license with experience in a large scale facilities and grounds with comparable electrical systems and equipment; or any equivalent combination or experience and training which provides the following knowledge, abilities and skills:
  • Possess State of Wisconsin Master Electricians Certificate
  • Supports contractors with 4160V and provides service on 480V / 30208V / 120V / 10V
  • Considerable knowledge of electrical systems, methods, electrical codes and regulations along with mechanical aptitude.
  • Knowledge of precautions necessary to work safely with any electrical system.
  • Knowledge of arc-flash requirements.
  • Strong understanding of International Building Codes and NEC.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical/mechanical problems in a variety of equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot DC voltage controllers for overhead doors, security and fire panels, automatic door openers, card access systems and remote gate controls.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with fellow employees and other City employees in a courteous and tactful manner.
  • Skill in the operation of electrical test equipment and hand and power tools.
  • Ability to withstand a variety of temperatures, weather and working conditions.
  • Ability to work in a neat and accurate manner.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Ability to enter confined space with yearly training.
