Job Title: Construction Project Manager

Job Description

The Construction Project Manager oversees K-12 construction projects from preconstruction through closeout, serving as the primary point of contact between the owner, design team, and construction partners. This position suits experienced construction project managers and professionals with program management or owner's representative backgrounds who can successfully lead ground-up and renovation projects while balancing schedule, budget, quality, and stakeholder expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead overall project planning, execution, and delivery from preconstruction through closeout to ensure schedule, budget, and quality objectives are met.
  • Manage project controls, including schedule tracking, cost control, and performance metrics, to keep projects on time and within budget.
  • Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to proactively identify, assess, and resolve project risks and issues.
  • Oversee change management processes, including evaluation, pricing, negotiation, and documentation of change orders.
  • Administer contracts and support procurement activities, including bid reviews, vendor selection, and subcontractor management.
  • Coordinate and lead design reviews and constructability assessments to ensure design documents are buildable, cost-effective, and aligned with project goals.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor project quality plans to ensure adherence to specifications, codes, and industry standards.
  • Provide regular reporting and communication to ownership and executive stakeholders, including progress updates, financial status, and risk summaries.
  • Direct and support project staff, including engineers and project administration personnel, by providing leadership, guidance, and performance feedback.
  • Facilitate collaboration and communication among owners, architects, engineers, contractors, and internal teams to resolve design and construction issues.
  • Ensure compliance with safety plans, insurance requirements, and contractual obligations across all project phases.
  • Monitor and manage project budgets, forecasts, and financial performance, including cost tracking and variance analysis.
  • Support the management of multiple projects or programs simultaneously when required, prioritizing resources and timelines effectively.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 4+ years of construction project management experience with a general contractor working on ground-up projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage project schedule, budget, and risk across multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong knowledge of contract administration, including drafting, reviewing, and enforcing contract requirements.
  • Proven experience in change management, including evaluating and processing change orders.
  • Proficiency in project controls, including scheduling, cost control, and progress reporting.
  • Experience coordinating closely with owners, architects, engineers, and contractors on commercial or institutional projects.
  • Hands-on experience with ground-up construction and construction management practices.
  • Strong budgeting, cost control, and financial management skills for construction projects.
  • Ability to lead and support project teams, including engineers and project administration staff.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interface effectively with executive stakeholders and project partners.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience managing multiple projects or programs simultaneously is highly desirable.
  • Experience working as a Construction Program Manager or Owner's Representative is strongly considered.
  • Experience with K-12 or public-sector construction projects, including renovations and new construction, is a plus.
  • Familiarity with commercial construction environments and processes.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Detroit, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $48.10 - $82.00/hr.
