Welder and Fabricator Job Description This role focuses on fabricating and welding high-quality metal components and structures in a busy fabrication shop. You will read and interpret blueprints and pictures, measure and cut materials, assemble and weld components, and perform thorough quality checks to ensure every product meets exact specifications. Responsibilities Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and pictures to understand project requirements. Measure and mark cutting and bending lines on metal materials with precision. Verify and double-check design specifications before starting cutting or fabrication work. Cut, form, fabricate, and construct metal components and assemblies according to specifications. Perform MIG and TIG welding on sheet metal and other materials to produce strong, clean welds. Grind, deburr, and finish completed products to achieve a high-quality appearance and fit. Conduct quality checks on completed products to ensure they meet dimensional and visual standards. Complete job reports and documentation accurately and on time. Follow and uphold all state and company safety regulations while operating tools and equipment. Lift, position, and manipulate large metal objects safely during fabrication and assembly. Maintain a clean and organized work area to support efficient production and safety. Essential Skills Previous work experience as a welding fabricator in a metal fabrication or production environment. Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and pictures. Hands-on experience with MIG welding in a fabrication setting. Hands-on experience with TIG welding on sheet metal and related materials. Strong fabrication skills, including measuring, cutting, bending, and assembling metal components. Ability to perform grinding and finishing operations on completed products. Advanced knowledge of industrial metalwork processes and practices. Good eye for detail to ensure accuracy and high-quality workmanship. Strong mathematical skills for measuring, layout, and verification of dimensions. Ability to lift and manipulate large metal objects safely. Ability to stand for long periods while performing fabrication and welding tasks. Commitment to following safety regulations and company safety standards. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working in a production-oriented fabrication shop. Comfort working with sheet metal and a variety of metal thicknesses. Ability to complete clear and accurate job reports and documentation. Strong problem-solving skills to resolve fabrication and fit-up issues. Work Environment You will work full-time in a fabrication shop focused on building and servicing industrial compactors and related equipment, including large garbage bins and compactors. The environment can be dirty at times due to the nature of the equipment and materials. The role is on a first shift schedule, typically from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. You will work with fabrication tools, welding equipment, grinders, and other shop machinery, following all safety procedures and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment and work attire suitable for a fabrication and welding setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Inver Grove Heights, MN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $33.00/hr.
