Job Title: Welder and Fabricator Job Description This role offers the opportunity to work in a custom job shop specializing in structural steel projects, where you will perform flux-core and MIG welding, read blueprints and welding symbols, and contribute to a variety of fabrication tasks. You will take ownership of your work by gathering materials, setting up jobs, and supporting general shop activities to keep projects moving efficiently. Responsibilities Perform FCAW (flux-core) welding on mild steel for a variety of custom and structural steel projects. Set up work independently by reviewing job requirements, gathering necessary materials, and preparing workstations. Read and interpret blueprints and welding symbols to ensure accurate fabrication and assembly. Use MIG welding techniques as required for different projects and materials. Assist with fabrication tasks such as cutting, fitting, and assembling components according to specifications. Move and organize materials throughout the shop to support ongoing projects. Assist with painting and finishing tasks when there is downtime from welding and fabrication. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area and follow all shop safety procedures. Collaborate with other team members to complete jobs on time and to quality standards. Essential Skills Proficiency in FCAW (flux-core) welding on mild steel. Proficiency in MIG welding in a fabrication or structural steel environment. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and welding symbols accurately. Hands-on experience with steel fabrication processes. Ability to work independently in a custom job shop environment, including gathering materials and setting up jobs. Strong attention to detail to ensure weld quality and adherence to specifications. Ability to perform physically demanding tasks such as standing for long periods and moving materials in a shop setting. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working in a structural steel or custom fabrication shop. Comfort working on a wide variety of projects and adapting to changing priorities. Willingness to assist with non-welding tasks such as painting, material handling, and general shop support. Commitment to safety and following shop procedures and guidelines. You will work primarily on first shift, Monday through Thursday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with occasional work on Fridays depending on project needs. The role involves working with welding equipment (FCAW and MIG), fabrication tools, and material handling equipment in an active production setting. The shop atmosphere is practical and hands-on, with a focus on safety, teamwork, and efficient project completion. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Knapp, WI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $26.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
