We are seeking an experienced Excavation Manager / Lead Heavy Equipment Operator to join our growing team. This position plays a critical role in overseeing excavation and utility projects while operating heavy equipment and coordinating field crews to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to company standards.
The ideal candidate is a dependable leader with strong excavation experience, mechanical knowledge, and the ability to manage daily jobsite operations in a fast-paced environment. This is a working leadership position that requires both equipment operation and active participation in field work, including trenching support, site preparation, and general labor when needed.
Candidates must possess a valid Class A CDL, relevant excavation experience, and the ability to pass a criminal background check.

Key Responsibilities
Safely and efficiently operate excavators for trenching, grading, digging, lifting, backfilling, and material handling
Lead and coordinate field crews to maintain productivity, quality, and safe jobsite operations
Assist in planning excavation activities and sequencing work to maximize efficiency
Operate additional heavy equipment including loaders, backhoes, water trucks, dump trucks, and tankers
Perform hands-on labor and support crew operations as needed
Prepare written estimates and assist with job costing when required
Read and interpret site plans, utility layouts, and project specifications
Conduct daily equipment inspections and identify maintenance or repair needs
Maintain organized, clean, and safety-compliant job sites
Communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, subcontractors, and customers
Ensure all work is completed in accordance with OSHA standards and company safety policies
Troubleshoot field issues and make sound operational decisions under pressure
Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum 35 years of excavation or utility construction experience preferred
Proven experience operating excavators and heavy construction equipment
Strong understanding of trenching, grading, underground utilities, and septic systems
Valid Class A CDL with clean driving record
Strong mechanical aptitude and equipment knowledge
Ability to read blueprints, grade stakes, and project layouts
Familiarity with hydraulic systems and basic equipment troubleshooting
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
Ability to work independently and lead crews effectively
Physically capable of performing demanding outdoor work in varying weather conditions
Reliable attendance and strong professional work ethic
Commitment to safety, accountability, and high-quality workmanship
