Job Title: Construction Field Supervisor - High-End Residential
Job Description
This role oversees daily field operations for high-end custom residential construction projects. The Construction Field Supervisor leads on-site activities, directs subcontractors, enforces safety standards, maintains schedules, and ensures all work meets exacting quality and design specifications. Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of subcontractors, vendors, and material and equipment deliveries on the job site.
- Manage the construction schedule to ensure milestones are met and materials and equipment are available when needed.
- Address unexpected issues such as weather disruptions or supply delays to minimize downtime and keep the project on track.
- Inspect ongoing and completed work to verify strict compliance with blueprints, specifications, and applicable building codes.
- Uphold company standards for quality control and quickly resolve any defects, substandard work, or technical challenges that arise.
- Coordinate with local jurisdictions to schedule and facilitate required inspections.
- Collaborate with the Project Manager to order materials and equipment, and coordinate site placement and protection of materials.
- Enforce all health and safety standards on site without exception.
- Conduct regular safety briefings and toolbox talks, ensuring proper PPE use in accordance with OSHA regulations.
- Document and respond immediately to any safety incidents, taking corrective actions as needed.
- Maintain a clean, secure, and safe job site in line with company guidelines, standards, and procedures.
- Maintain accurate daily logs of job site activity, weather conditions, workforce, and key events.
- Track progress against project timelines and provide weekly two-week look-ahead reports to the Project Manager.
- Coordinate and document change orders, ensuring they are clearly communicated and tracked.
- Prepare and manage punch list items prior to project turnover to ensure a complete and high-quality finished product.
- Work closely with project managers, architects, designers, trades, and clients to maintain clear communication and alignment.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and direction to on-site personnel to foster a collaborative, craftsmanship-focused environment.
Essential Skills
- Minimum 10 years of experience in field construction of high-end custom residences.
- Minimum 10 years of supervising experience in the construction field.
- Proven ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical specifications.
- Strong experience in high-end residential construction, including custom homes.
- Demonstrated subcontractor management and trade coordination skills.
- Experience with construction project management, including schedule management, project tracking, and project scheduling.
- Hands-on construction supervision experience in residential environments.
- Ability to manage change orders and RFIs effectively.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage teams, resolve conflicts, and make sound decisions under pressure.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for working with trades, project managers, architects, designers, and clients.
- Proficiency with standard office tools and construction project management software.
- High level of organization and attention to detail.
- Proactive problem-solving abilities and strong time management skills for scheduling multiple trades and vendors.
- High-end residential experience is required.
- Valid driver's license from state of residence.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Extensive experience in high-end custom residential construction in markets similar to Fairfield County.
- Experience with construction management software for scheduling, tracking, and documentation.
- Strong blueprint and technical drawing interpretation skills.
- Experience with trade coordination and schedule control across multiple vendors and subcontractors.
- Background in residential construction with a focus on quality craftsmanship and design-driven projects.
- Interest in working in a mentorship-focused environment with direct access to experienced builders and project managers.
- Desire to take ownership of project outcomes and collaborate closely with ownership on project decisions.
Work Environment
This is a fully on-site role based at active residential construction sites. The work environment centers on high-end custom home projects, where field leaders interact daily with ownership, project managers, trades, architects, and designers. The culture emphasizes hands-on involvement, craftsmanship, accountability, and pride in the finished product, with project managers who price and run the work directly. You will use standard office tools and construction project management software for scheduling, documentation, and project tracking, while spending the majority of your time in the field overseeing construction activities. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Westport, CT.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $110000.00 - $125000.00/hr.
