This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel in the Federal Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position: Utilizes pest management control methods to reduce and control hazards to public health, stored products, structures, and vegetation. Who May Apply: US Citizens

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element) : Ability to do the work of a(n) Pest Controller (Motor Vehicle Operator) I have the ability to perform common duties to determine courses of action for infestations to include preventive measures to protect facilities and real property, set various types of traps, and can operate common power tools. I have applied pesticides for vertebrate and pest control working closely with a Senior Pest Controller. ~ without more than normal supervision. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
  • Physical Effort : The work requires moderate to heavy physical effort such as lifting and carrying items often weighing 50 pounds or more with assistant. May carry chemical solutions and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds for extended periods. Moves furniture and equipment and operates high impact pneumatic hammers as well is various carpentry and masonry tools. The job requires working in a wide variety of locations, frequently in cramped and uncomfortable positions (for example, accessing attics with 2x4 beams with limited space to physically move easily). Must be able to climb and work off a 40-foot ladder and also out of an aerial platform. Requires stooping, bending, crawling, and climbing.
  • Working Conditions: The work is accomplished both inside and outside. When working outside, pest control workers are often exposed to hot sun for extended periods of time and occasionally to bad weather. Outside work may be done under hot and dusty conditions for extended periods. Inside work is often accomplished in structural areas with minimum ventilation or limited access. The protective equipment designed to nullify the risk of exposure to toxic dust and sprays, which might damage their health. Damage of health may occur if appropriate safety procedures are not followed. Discomfort may be experienced while wearing protective clothing, respirators (for extended periods of time of up to 4 hours), goggles, or facemasks for extended periods of time. They may be exposed to poisonous insects and plants and to wild animals. Protective devices such as but not limited to earplugs, safety glasses, respirators, gloves, hardhat and safety shoes is required. Steel toe shoes, hard hats and safety glasses, are required at all times. Coveralls with long sleeves or trousers with a long sleeve shirt must be worn at all times.
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this position, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
