Facilities Services invites applications for a Journeyman Carpenter.

Examples of Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform skilled carpentry for maintenance, repairs, renovations, and new construction projects across campus facilities
  • Install, repair, and maintain flooring, stairways, ADA ramps, roofing, concrete forms, and other structural building components
  • Construct, install, and maintain cabinets, countertops, partitions, furniture, fixtures, windows, doors, and related building features
  • Install and repair interior finishes and accessories, including glass, blinds, draperies, ceilings, walls, signage, artwork, and display systems
  • Operate and perform basic maintenance on hand tools, power tools, lifts, scaffolding, ladders, vehicles, and other specialized equipment
  • Read blueprints and sketches, ensure compliance with ADA and fire codes, and coordinate work with contractors and project teams
  • Maintain accurate project records, track inventory, use basic computer and mobile technology tools, and assist with other assigned maintenance duties
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma and completion of carpentry apprenticeship program or three (3) years of progressively responsible carpenter experience or a combination of experience and education
  • Possess a current drivers license
  • Considerable knowledge of methods, materials, practices, equipment, machines, and techniques used in the carpenter trade
  • Exercise sound judgment and maintain a safe, compliant work environment
  • Collaborate effectively in diverse teams while fostering trust, respect, and strong customer service
  • Follow instructions, safety protocols, policies, and procedures with attention to detail
  • Demonstrate strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and time-management skills
  • Experience providing training and support to others when appropriate
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including working at heights, operating specialized equipment, and working in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to apply analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills independently while using basic computer software and meeting deadlines

Preferred Qualifications
  • Five (5) years Journeyman Carpenter experience
  • Ability to maintain appropriate records
  • Demonstrated skill in the operation of personal computers
  • Working knowledge of ADA Codes and Fire Codes
  • Knowledge of purchasing and inventory practices and procedures

Physical Requirements

(Qualified candidates must be able to meet minimum requirements and perform the primary functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.)

  • Lifting: Ground to 36 inches, up to 60 pounds. Ground to overhead, up to 50 pounds.
  • Carrying: Front carry up to 60 pounds for 10 feet. One-hand carry, up to 42 pounds, for 10 feet, and up a flight of stairs.
  • Pushing and pulling forces required (during the use of tools): 50 pounds sustained.
  • Static trunk forward bending and twisting from a standing, crouching or kneeling position while using tools.
  • Reaching with your arms in all directions, including overhead continuously, for at least 3 minutes.
  • Working in various positions (standing, squatting, kneeling, crouching, and crawling).
  • Balancing when climbing and working on a ladder or scaffold, or personnel lift.
  • Use of various grip circumferences and strengths as well as static grip positions during the use of various tools (4 1/2" to 5 1/2" circumference needing an average of 35 pounds of grip force) and while manipulating various work materials (maximum 50 pounds).
  • Manual steadiness, dexterity, speed, and coordination:
  • Arm-Hand Steadiness The ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or while holding your arm and hand in one position.
  • Manual Dexterity The ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
  • Wrist-Finger Speed The ability to make fast, simple, repeated movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists.

Physical Screen will be administered prior to a final offer of employment .

Position Number: 081650

Bargaining Unit: Pacific NW Regional Council Carpenters

Work Schedule: Full-time, 1.0 FTE (40 Hours a week), Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, 12 months/year

Probationary Period: Six (6) months minimum
