Job Title: Construction Superintendent
Job Description
Lead and manage projects for a general contractor, overseeing field operations from project start through completion. This role plans, organizes, and directs daily jobsite activities, ensuring safety, quality, and schedule adherence while supervising field staff and subcontractors across multiple trades. Projects typically range from $10M to $20M in value and include commercial, education (K12), retail, industrial, and healthcare facilities.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage daily jobsite operations from project start through completion for ground-up construction projects.
- Oversee and enforce jobsite safety management, ensuring all personnel follow safety policies and procedures.
- Review and interpret submittals to ensure compliance with project specifications and design intent.
- Develop, maintain, and update project schedules to keep work on track and coordinate activities among multiple disciplines.
- Manage project materials, including planning, ordering, delivery coordination, and inventory tracking on site.
- Prepare accurate and timely daily reports documenting jobsite activities, progress, issues, and manpower.
- Coordinate and communicate effectively with trades and subcontractors to sequence work and resolve field challenges.
- Collaborate closely with office leadership, including the Project Manager and Construction Director, through daily reporting logs and proactive communication.
- Monitor and coordinate work across multiple trades, including electrical, mechanical, carpentry, and exterior scopes.
- Support project planning and problem-solving to keep projects within scope, schedule, and quality expectations.
- Utilize construction management software and tools, such as Procore and Bluebeam, to manage project documentation and communication.
- Ensure that ground-up construction activities align with design documents, building codes, and company standards.
- Participate in and lead on-site meetings with subcontractors, inspectors, and other stakeholders as needed.
Essential Skills
- 8+ years of experience running and managing construction projects that involve multiple disciplines and trades, including electrical, mechanical, carpentry, and exterior scopes.
- Proven experience managing construction projects valued between $10 million and $20 million.
- Demonstrated experience with construction projects in commercial, education (including K12), and healthcare environments.
- Procore or BlueBeam experience
- Proficiency in subcontractor management, including coordination, scheduling, and performance oversight.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Project management experience beyond field supervision is a plus.
- Estimating experience is a plus and can support preconstruction and budgeting efforts.
- Experience with pre-engineered steel buildings, structural masonry, steel frame, and wood frame construction is highly beneficial.
- Experiencecommercial, education, retail, industrial, and healthcare projects is advantageous.
- Experience working with a general contractor or construction management company on multi-million-dollar projects is preferred.
Work Environment
This role is primarily field-based on active jobsites throughout the Southwest Michigan area, including commercial buildings, schools, fire stations, and county facilities. The Construction Superintendent works on site Monday through Friday, typically from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with hourly compensation and eligibility for overtime. The position involves regular coordination with field staff, subcontractors, and office leadership, and requires a consistent presence on the jobsite to oversee daily operations. The company provides a truck, gas card, and cell phone to support travel and communication between sites. The work environment emphasizes a tight-knit, family-oriented culture and aims to keep team members working relatively close to home, minimizing long commutes whenever possible.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Kalamazoo, MI.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $40.87 - $48.08/hr.
