Stantecs water team is growing! Were seeking an experienced Construction Inspector who has overseen municipal water/wastewater treatment plant and pumping station projects. The successful candidate will work on challenging and diverse tasks in a consulting and construction inspection role that will require application of technical skills, project delivery, and leadership for construction projects. Typical work includes the construction and rehabilitationofWater and Wastewater Treatment Plants, Wastewater storagefacilities,and pumping stationsor parts and open cut excavation, as well as delivery of major infrastructure components including treatment plants, pump stations, and associated systems.

This role will support complex and dynamic projects in the Greater Toronto Area.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Provide an on-site presence to represent Stantec and the client by observing and reviewing projects during construction, monitoring conformance with plans, specifications, and other codes and regulations.
  • Provide instruction to the Contractor on requests for information and identify deficiencies in the Contractors work.
  • Monitor the progress of construction activities, ensuring cost, schedule and quality standards are met.
  • Be a role model and leader with respect to Health and Safety and ensure construction safety practices on-site through Health & Safety policies and plans.
  • Provide updates and make recommendations to Project Manager, Contract Administrator, design professionals and client as directed.
  • Prepare daily and monthly construction progress reports and keep detailed records of daily activities.
  • Perform field measurements and keep record of contractors material and labor at site.
  • Keep record of as-built redline drawings and verify with the contractor on a regular basis.
  • Review conflicts, requests for information, construction issues and liaise with the rest of the project team to find solutions and prepare responses.
  • Review change orders and field orders for reasonableness of pricing and constructability in a timely matter.
  • Assist in obtaining necessary permits and licenses for timely opening of site.
  • Assist Contract administrator in review of construction submittals and Contractor progress payment requests.
  • Review plans, specifications, requests for information, submittals, construction schedules, shop drawings and pay applications (QA/QC).
  • Prepare documents and maintain file management of project-related information including correspondence, reports, and pictures.
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Working knowledge of local, and provincial building codes, construction principles, techniques and procedures, occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • Is driven and enjoys working in an environment to understand and solve problems quickly and efficiently.
  • Recognizes when technical problems are developing and initiates appropriate corrective actions using sound professional judgment, creativity and innovation.
  • Ability to interpret sketches, drawings and other similar material.
  • Takes initiative on tasks and in coordinating with other members of the project team, obtaining and sharing necessary information.
  • Strong organizational skills and understanding of task assignment and schedule.
  • Excellent English language written and verbal communication skills; ability to work efficiently and effectively within a team.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite of programs.
  • Ability to solve problems using sound professional judgment, creativity and innovation.
  • Working knowledge of critical path method scheduling.
  • Thrives in stressful situations and looks for opportunities to ensure project success.
  • Must have a valid Ontario drivers license and vehicle to travel as needed.

Education and Experience

  • Technical degree/diploma/certificate in the construction industry or equivalent in related field; or equivalent combination of education and construction experience.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience supporting vertical projects (in water and wastewater treatment plants & pumping stations is required.
  • P.Eng. or CET or NASSCO certification would be considered an asset.
  • AutoCAD skill, or other Computer Aided Design software skills would be considered an asset.

Position will include work on-site at construction locations with some office work. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Must be available to travel for out-of-town projects when needed.
