Position Summary

As the Buildings and Grounds Superintendent, you will plan, direct, and supervise the MMHI maintenance, housekeeping, and laundry operations. You will function as an operations leader for MMHI and as a member of the Senior Leadership Team. Responsibilities include:

  • Providing direction, technical expertise, and consultation in the planning, design, remodeling, and maintenance of the facility.
  • Maintaining over 700,000 square feet of usable space and upkeep of over 300 acres of grounds.
  • Ensuring laundry and housekeeping operations support a clean, safe and sanitary environment that meets infection control standards and promotes the well-being of patients, staff and visitors.
  • Ensuring all facility buildings and grounds meet regulatory compliance with the Division of Quality Assurance (DQA), Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and The Joint Commission (TJC).
  • Maintaining computerized/work order systems.

Salary Information

The starting pay is between $42.00 and $44.33 per hour (approximately between $87,300 and $92,200 per year), depending on qualifications, plus excellent benefits. A 12-month probationary period is required.

Pay for current or former state employees will be set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. This position is in pay schedule and range 81/03.

Job Details

All applicants will be required to allow DHS to conduct a Caregiver background check to determine whether the circumstances of any convictions may be related to the job being filled.

All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by the facility or medical personnel directed by the facility within 30 days of the start date.

DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will have all of the following:

  • Able to work scheduled hours as needed, which may include weekends, holidays, early mornings and early evenings as needed.
  • Experience managing facilities operations (e.g., HVAC, plumbing, electrical, grounds, maintenance, construction, building codes and safety regulations, directing daily operations, prioritizing projects, etc.).
  • Experience performing lead or supervisory functions (e.g., developing performance standards, evaluating training needs, handling discipline and corrective actions, recruiting, hiring, tasking staff to complete work timely, etc.).
  • Experience interpreting and applying safety standards, infection control, or environmental services compliance.
  • Experience with change management (e.g., communicate changes to staff and partners, train and support employees through transitions, monitor progress and adjust plans as needed, etc.).

Well-qualified applicants will also have one or more of the following:

  • Experience managing building/grounds operations and projects for large facilities with over 200,000 square feet or 500 occupants (e.g., schools/universities, hospitals, office buildings, churches, etc.).
  • Experience preparing and managing operating budgets (e.g., setting goals, itemizing expenses, proposing expenditures, directing changes, etc.).
  • Experience conducting long-range planning.
  • Experience developing and implementing policies or procedures.
