Join Our Team as a Traffic Data Systems Supervisor!
Are you passionate about transforming raw data into powerful insights that shape the future of transportation? In this dynamic role, youll lead the collection, validation, analysis, forecasting, and reporting of traffic data that directly influences roadway design, long- and short-term transportation planning, and special projects.
You'll be at the helm of developing and maintaining a robust database application that processes all traffic count data. Your work ensures the seamless distribution of processed data to key platforms, including the Vehicle Miles Book, the State Planning and Operations Database (SPOD), and the Highway Performance Monitoring System (HPMS).
Most importantly, your contributions will support critical HPMS submissions to the Federal Highway Administration playing a vital role in determining federal funding allocations that impact infrastructure across the nation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.
- Develops and maintains a database application to input, analyze, validate, and adjust traffic counts collected by permanent counters and short-term rural and urban collection sites
- Works with developers to incorporate database application output into traffic data management software that streamlines traffic projection and analysis
- Works with the Highway Performance Monitoring System (HPMS) coordinator to incorporate traffic count and classification data from the database application output into the annual Federal HPMS submittal that helps determine federal funding allocations
- Develops and maintains a methodology to incorporate database application output into the annual development of the Vehicle Miles Book and the Automatic Traffic Recorder Book
- Directs, instructs, and trains a crew of two subordinate personnel in traffic data collection, analysis, projection, and forecasting procedures, data input and validation techniques, and use of GIS in traffic data management
- Advises on methods for unusual requests
- Conducts performance appraisals
- Works with the Counter Shop Supervisor to review current traffic data collection plans and methodologies
- Plans future traffic gathering locations based on changing traffic patterns and characteristics
- Analyzes the performance of existing traffic counter sites and recommended possible improvements to the system
- Works individually and with subordinate personnel to respond to daily requests from various entities, including roadway designers, planners, consultants, city and county personnel, private developers, and the general public

KNOWLEDGE:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor's Degree (typically in Engineering or Physical Science) Experience: 0-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in a Transportation occupational group and Laboratory) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Field Data Collection and Lab Analysis Specialist II OR Education & Experience Substitution: 4-6 years of progressive work experience (typically in a Transportation occupational group and Laboratory) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Field Data Collection and Lab Analysis Specialist II Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: None

- Employees would only be eligible for one (1) hiring bonus in a 12-month period.
- If the employee elects to downgrade through an active recruitment and/or appointment during the twelve (12) month period, they would be required to pay the bonus back.
