Position Summary
We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer with a passion for being part of a small, closeknit Engineering team designing and building portable chemical detection instrumentation. The ideal candidate will contribute throughout the full product lifecycle - from concept and design to prototyping, testing, and production support. This role requires a strong foundation in SolidWorks and mechanical design fundamentals, along with the ability to work collaboratively across engineering disciplines, manufacturing, and supplier teams to deliver reliable, precise, and well-integrated hardware solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute throughout the full product lifecycle
- Create plans and designs using CAD programs (SolidWorks)
- Hands-on assembly of electromechanical sub-systems
- Support quality assurance standards though design and by partnering with onsite Manufacturing and Operations teams on parts inspection, troubleshooting, etc.
- Collaborate with external suppliers and vendors
- Physical testing of parts & systems
- Analyze problems or deficiencies and develop solutions to resolve them
- Conduct experiments and evaluations to improve and innovate product designs
- Oversee the development and manufacturing of physical prototypes for testing
- Document the design process, iterations, and test analytics
- Prepare technical reports, design specifications documents, and operational manuals
- Ensure compliance with internal and external regulations and policies
- Stay informed of the latest advancements in technology, design trends, and engineering best practices
Skills & Qualifications
- Proficient in SolidWorks
- Proficient with PDM lifecycle management
- Familiarity with designing both machined and injection molded parts
- Basic machine-shop skills & 3D printing/prototyping experience
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent engineering field is required
- A minimum of 5 years or relevant engineering experience is required
- Ability to communicate effectively and continuously with engineers and non-engineers, both internally and externally, in person and virtual
- Experience in developing production-level and support documentation, including BOMs, assembly drawings, and maintenance instructions
- Hands-on experience assembling and testing electromechanical systems
- Attentive to detail and critically minded
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Exceptional time management and organizational skills
