Civil Engineer III

Location: North Anna, VA (Local preferred; hybrid remote negotiable)
Length of Assignment: 3+ years

Overview:
This long-term initiative aims to extend the operational life of our nuclear facility to 80 years through significant system upgrades and infrastructure modernization. As a key contributor, you will develop and execute innovative, safety-focused engineering solutions that ensure regulatory compliance and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Obtain Engineering Qualifications and collaborate with application-specific engineering teams to understand system functions and requirements.
  • Review and approve civil engineering plans developed by equipment vendors, ensuring alignment with design specifications and regulatory standards.
  • Conduct seismic analysis and design for mounting components and equipment, adhering to industrial standards such as ACI, ASCE, and ASME codes.
  • Engage in cross-discipline communication and collaboration with mechanical, electrical, and regulatory teams to deliver integrated design solutions.
  • Proactively identify design risks, propose improvements, and drive tasks to completion while maintaining rigorous documentation standards.
  • Communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders and support field implementation teams.

Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering required; Masters degree or Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of relevant engineering experience, preferably in the nuclear industry.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in the design of steel and concrete structures, including pipes, conduits, junction boxes, and foundations.
    • Familiarity with finite element modeling and software tools such as Mathcad, GTSTrudl, STADD, and ANSYS is a plus.
    • Knowledge of nuclear standard design processes and NRC regulations is highly desirable.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Strong collaboration and communication skills to work effectively across disciplines.
    • Adaptability and problem-solving abilities to navigate evolving project scopes and regulatory requirements.
    • Attention to detail and a commitment to documentation rigor to meet nuclear safety and compliance standards.
    • Initiative and ownership in identifying design risks and driving tasks to completion.
Work Schedule:
  • 4x10 schedule (40 hours/week) with potential for overtime during outages.
Travel Requirements:
  • Local candidates: Approximately 2 weeks per year.
  • Non-local candidates: Minimum 1 week per month (negotiable).
