DEFINITION: Under general supervision, maintains repairs and performs routine building maintenance plumbing task for Sunnyside Unified School District.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

TASKS:

Maintains and repairs plumbing and mechanical areas of the building; inspects, tests and analyzes malfunctions of equipment and systems; dismantles, remodels, repairs, reassembles and installs controllers, relays, sensors and switches on assigned equipment and systems; repairs vandalism or storm damage to buildings and grounds; installs and maintains new water, sewer, irrigation and gas lines in accordance with the plumbing building codes and specifications.

Troubleshoots repairs and or installs plumbing leaks; breaks; stoppages; irrigation, water heaters; sinks; drinking fountains; backflow valves and other plumbing fixtures; operates the backhoe, trencher; forklift, crane, hydraulic pump, drain machine and other special equipment as needed; repairs or replaces thermostatic controls and electric and hydraulic timers; inspects, tests and analyzes malfunctions of equipment and systems; reads blueprints and performs Blue Staking as needed; determines if items can be repaired or recommends their replacement and materials needed within established expenditure limits; orders and maintains plumbing supplies.

Performs preventative maintenance of assigned equipment and systems; repairs or finishes furniture, cabinetry and walls; repairs or replaces damaged mirrors, windows and doors in buildings and school buses; repairs or opens locked doors and gates; welds and repairs playground and maintenance equipment and school buses; fabricates access ramps and hand rails; paints indoors and outdoors; assists with other trades maintenance activities; calculates amounts and places orders for construction project materials; contacts vendors according to procurement procedures; performs related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:

Knowledge of District policies and procedures.

Knowledge of maintenance manuals, techniques and equipment

Knowledge of maintenance equipment.

Knowledge of Plumbing Codes.

Skill in the safe operation of power tools, hand tools, saws and other maintenance equipment.

Skill in following oral and written instructions.

Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is performed in indoor and outdoor environments. Work requires frequent driving, standing, walking, bending and lifting. May be exposed to moving equipment and hand tools, extreme weather conditions, toxic fumes and chemicals, harmful dust and air particles and infectious diseases.

QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Diploma or equivalent,

Three (3) years of trades maintenance experience in the plumbing field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Must pass district administered examination with a score of 70 or greater.

Must possess an Arizona driver license.

Additional certifications may also be required as specified by the District.

Salary Grade: L Hourly Pay: $21.75 Hours per Day: 8 Days in Contract: 260
