About the Role

The Senior Superintendent is responsible for supervising all day-to-day activities of the soybean and canola oilseed extraction plant at the Goodland, KS crush facility. Scoular's Goodland Crush facility is set up to crush both soybeans and canola for use in the growing renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel markets.

This position is responsible for the safe, successful and progressive day to day operational activities and maintaining a safe, sanitary workplace in compliance with company policies and regulatory agency (OSHA, EPA, HACCP, etc). The Senior Superintendent is responsible for improving and optimizing our processes and assisting in managing capital projects.

Reporting directly to the Plant Manager, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues by utilizing engineering and project management skills to support operational improvements and ongoing construction projects.

Lead Operational Excellence:

  • Ensure successfully day to day operation of the Extraction facility, in areas of safety, quality and production.
  • Implement standard operating procedures to consistently achieve optimum efficiency.
  • Analyze existing processes for cost savings, reliability, and performance improvement opportunities.
  • Manage and control production processes to meet quality specifications and production schedules.
  • Assist in troubleshooting production problems, optimizing yields and productivity and controlling costs.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities, develop solutions, and lead the implementation of solutions. Conduct optimization assessments to identify existing and potential opportunities, propose solutions to improve performance primarily in the areas of energy, chemicals, product yields, and reliability
  • Responsible for identifying and helping to implement process improvements for production in all facets of operation through direct contributions of project development from conception though start-up utilizing engineering and performance excellence principles to operate, troubleshoot, and improve chemical and mechanical processes.
  • Partner with the business managers and merchants to coordinate all transportation and maintenance needs for the facility to ensure on-time deliveries.

Safety:

  • Drive Employee Safety agenda and improvement.
  • Operate the facility(s) in an efficient and safe manner. Partner with Safety team to ensure the safety of location's workforce by complying with all Federal, State and Local regulations. Provide leadership in monthly safety meetings, training and perform location inspections.
  • Ensure compliance with all environmental requirements.

Team Leadership:

  • Manage team of shift supervisors, plant operators, etc.
  • Partner with Plant Manager and functional partners to support and execute recruiting, training, development and workflow of team.
  • Responsible for talent management and development.
  • Drive empowered decision making with clear accountability.
  • Engage and inspire teams through inclusive leadership, making Scoular a great place to work.

About you:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum of three to five years production and supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of grain facility operations
  • Results driven
  • Ability to independently solve problems
  • Strong and effective communication skills
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Basic understanding of merchandising, safety and operational processes

Preferred Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, related discipline or equivalent
  • Oilseed crushing industry experience.
  • Solvent or hexane experience.
  • Knowledge of Extraction process
