Intermediate Welder

Is a Chicago-based nonprofit that removes barriers to employment by eliminating biases that disqualify candidates unnecessarily. Working with local and global companies, Skills brings opportunities to neighborhoods and municipalities throughout the Chicagoland area. To be eligible for Skills for Chicagoland's Future's services, candidates must reside in Illinois or Indiana, and be either unemployed or underemployed.

• Follow OSHA and FSC safety regulations, wearing required protective gear in environments with dust, odors, and noise
• Read blueprints and job procedures to perform accurate welding with minimal defects and ensures weldments meet quality standards
• Use quality control tools to inspect welds and ensure structural integrity of completed products
• Perform basic fit-up operations for standard and prototype parts, meeting production requirements under pressure
• May train, lead, or direct others while supporting additional duties as assigned

• 3+ years of experience preferred and/or combination of education and experience
• Experience with MIG (GMAW) welding of carbon and stainless steel is required and experience with TIG (GTAW) welding is a plus
• Ability to interpret welding blueprints and call-outs
• Must be able to stand for long periods of time, and squat, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs
• Relevant soft skills include reading/writing in English, math and measurement abilities, and communication
