SUMMARY: The Mechanic repairs and maintains production machinery and mechanical equipment, such as motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, production machines and equipment. Must be the site leader in living and driving the Company Core Values and High-Performance Work Culture.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Startup equipment and maintain it by adjusting and do line change overs as needed
  • Monitor equipment and adjust as necessary to maintain maximum efficiency
  • Inspect units by visually looking at the weld throughout the day and cut open the can to check the end/body hook by using veneers
  • Check height of the can by using the height gauge and counter sink on the can. Water test and check weld seam for lacquer
  • Remove used wire off of the welders and re-string new when needed
  • Adjust score dies when metal changes on easy open ends and adjust/repair riveters
  • Change over compounder and adjust strip feeds when metal changes
  • Do all die changes in the press room and make all necessary adjustments
  • Do preventive maintenance in the slitting department
  • Lubricate/maintain equipment as needed such as grease, and check oil in gear boxes
  • Help train line operators on the welders and seamer
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment in the facility
  • Document preventive maintenance procedures with dates in the preventive maintenance log book as procedures are completed
  • Follow Company personnel and product safety requirements including standards such as those from SQF and internal GMPs
  • Follow proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous waste in accordance with State and Federal laws
  • All other duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: One-year certificate from a college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read in English and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees within the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute percentages as well as draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must have completed journeyman training requirements as required by the Company or similar training elsewhere. Must be certified in CPR, basic first aid and fully trained in Lockout and Tagout requirements.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and hear. The employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to vibration and occasionally exposed to the risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
