OVERVIEW

S&B is currently seeking an employee to support our Greenville, SC team. Under close supervision, performs routine drafting assignments, which require knowledge and skill in basic drafting techniques and procedures. Assignments are designed to further develop the incumbent's job knowledge and abilities.

Oversees the implementation and completion of all phases of assigned projects, and independently performs the most difficult design assignments requiring the application of advanced design techniques in accordance with company and industry standards and codes.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for a group of designers/drafters assigned to a Taskforce: single client, multiple clients or an office. A Taskforce Lead's responsibilities include performance and salary evaluations.

EDUCATION

Requires a vocational-technical degree in drafting and design. This includes a working knowledge of fundamental CADD and 3D software. (or equivalent degrees with working knowledge of CADD/3D software and additional work experience).

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

This position requires a minimum of fifteen (15) years Drafting/Design work experience. PD7 is the senior-level design position known as a Discipline Taskforce Lead. Incumbent must be able to demonstrate a sound understanding of design concepts with minimal engineering input and a proficiency in utilizing manual and CADD techniques. Incumbent must demonstrate the ability to lead with minimum guidance multiple groups of design personnel: drafters, designers and engineers to meet the needs of the Clients, Operations, and multiple Design Teams.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Directs the Project Discipline Lead on the design criteria for all phases of a project requiring the application of basic engineering principles, material properties, and a familiarity with construction, installation, and maintenance procedures.
  • Provides conceptual design input to the projects. Incumbent must be knowledgeable of the project, client standards and governmental regulations.
  • Performs certain administrative tasks and provides the day-to-day directions and assignments for the taskforce personnel.
  • Identifies and implements training for the Taskforce for client standards and procedures.
  • Approves the project's Scope of Work for the discipline.
  • Approves the detail and layout drawings and sketches of unusual, complex, or original designs requiring the application of theoretical and practical engineering knowledge.
  • Verifies department workflows were followed in creating the project deliverables and the deliverables conform to the client's contract specification.
  • Provides design/drafting personnel with revised design sketches for corrections of finished design drawings, general layouts, and guidance in refining technical requirements.
  • Provides technical guidance to design/drafting personnel and reviews completed assignments for accuracy.
  • Performs other related tasks in support of Dept Managers, Operations or project teams, such as writing procedures and specifications; analyzing bids; compiling, and analyzing various engineering design and/or test data: estimating, etc.
  • Mentor Project leads, drafters and designers within the Department.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from clients, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to senior management, public groups and/or boards of directors.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts such of basic algebra and geometry.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Occasionally may conduct or participate in a field trip to an operating plant or construction site. This requires normal hearing, the ability to stand, walk, reach, climb and balance, clear close and distance vision, depth perception and the ability to focus. Lifting up to 25 pounds may be required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Normal work environment will be a business office with moderate noise. Occasionally may visit or be temporarily assigned to work in an operating plant or at a construction site. This may require exposure to outdoor weather conditions, loud noise, work near moving mechanical parts, electrical energy, construction equipment, vibration, fumes, chemicals and airborne particles.
