**Position Purpose:**

Responsible to supervise lab activities including ensuring proper chemistry control of all plant systems; monitoring and coordinating plant water management and assisting with environmental concerns; supervising boiler and turbine chemical cleaning and boiler washing and filtration; testing and ensuring compliance with all water regulations and assisting in design and operational modifications of plant equipment and systems.

**Essential Functions:**

+ Responsible for the overall supervision of the lab and associated systems and areas.

+ Contribute to the safe and efficient operation of the facility through daily monitoring of power plant generation equipment to ensure proper operation, improving equipment performance, inventorying and ordering chemicals, analyzing equipment problems, and preventing possible future equipment malfunctions.

+ Review results generated by lab personnel and make technical decisions.

+ Direct hourly personnel in monitoring boiler cycle water quality. Develop new chemical programs and maintain proper water treatment, circulating water, environmental equipment chemistry, and an effective quality assurance program for the laboratory.

+ Work with operations and maintenance staff and the Environmental Coordinator to assist in maintaining the plant within all environmental standards. This includes overseeing all sampling and testing required for compliance.

+ Participate in plant meetings and provide input to resolve operations and maintenance problems.

+ Review the regeneration of the mixed bed demineralizers and assist in maintaining proper operation of the demineralizers, water filtration equipment and reverse osmosis equipment.

+ Work with engineering to make design or modification changes within the plant. Evaluate bids from equipment and chemical suppliers and contractors to make design changes. Coordinate and supervise the work done by these outside contractors.

+ **Coordinate outage contractors including but not limited to:** boiler wash, wash filtration, chemical cleaning, condenser and heat exchanger inspection/repair.

+ Ensure laboratory staff is trained, including continued improvement in laboratory skills, safety awareness, environmental compliance, and overall plant knowledge. Monitor expenditures for the lab area to remain within approved budgets.

+ Assist with technical aspects of the hazardous communication program.

+ Review employee performance, recommend disciplinary action if required, and handle labor management issues as they arise.

**Qualifications** **:**

+ Bachelors degree in engineering from an Engineering Accreditation Commission/Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (EAC/ABET) accredited engineering program and 5 years of power plant related experience; or

+ Bachelors degree with emphasis in chemistry and 5 years of power plant related experience; or

+ Associate degree in a related field and 7 years power plant related experience; or

+ High school diploma or equivalent (GED or HSED), and 9 years of power plant related experience.

+ Prior experience acting as a lead or previous supervisory experience.

+ Thorough knowledge of the labor agreement.

+ Resume required.

**Typical Physical/Mental/Environmental Demands:**

This position requires frequent sitting; and occasional standing/walking, climbing, use of keyboard/computer, and lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds. Frequent working conditions include dirt/dust, chemicals, fumes, extreme heat/cold, vibration, and noise; and occasionally poor ventilation and electrical risks. This position must be respirator qualified. The incumbent will occasionally be required to work at heights up to 350 feet, which requires the use of safety equipment, including a harness, in accordance with ANSI Z359 standards. Inspection and testing of results/water treatment areas require work in confined spaces. This position also requires good color vision, finger dexterity, hand coordination, the ability to perform close work, and good hearing. The incumbent uses engineering tools and instruments.
