Supervises a crew of maintenance employees utilizing proper maintenance techniques while performing duties using manual labor during roadway and right of way maintenance activities. Primarily focuses on the work requests and complaints generated by the general public including litter and debris removal. However, areas of work may include, but are not limited to, signage and pavement markings, maintenance and installation of residential driveways, maintenance and construction of drainage appurtenances, vegetation management, bridge maintenance, and patch/paving. Supervises and trains subordinates the operation of equipment to include, but not limited to, dump trucks, backhoes, motor graders, grade-all tractors, loaders, etc. Supervises and trains subordinates in the operation of small equipment, power tools, and hand tools to perform assigned maintenance activities. Maintains working knowledge and inputs daily work accomplishments into the HMMS system. Supervises and coordinates pre-trip equipment/vehicle inspection in accordance with the Departments most current rules, policies, and procedures. Supervises and trains subordinates in flagging operations in low and high volume areas to control flow of traffic for protection of workers, equipment and general public. Supervises the placement of traffic control devices in accordance with the MUTCD manual. Maintains weekly and monthly reports, time sheets, and cost records. Offers assistance during inclement weather events, emergencies and provides on-call services as required. Recommends personnel actions including promotions, transfers, and disciplinary action measures; rates employees annually according to the Employee Performance Management System. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Three and one-half (3.5) years of related work experience. Relevant education may substitute for the experience requirement. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operators license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.

The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. This position requires walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, and working in close proximity to motoring traffic and natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease on a daily basis.
