The overall function of this position is to inspect, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems on the barges, ferry vessels and other facilities operated as part of the DOTD Ferry System. This position is located in Section 42, Unit 072-Plaquemine Marine Maintenance Unit of DOTD.
The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties many times with or without minimal supervision and be also able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. The incumbent will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks.
Minimum Qualifications
Two years of the required experience for the following minimum qualifications must have been on-the-job experience:
Three years of experience or training in the electrical trade.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
- Installs, tests, repairs, and maintains marine vessel generators, transformers, switching equipment, etc... on all state-owned vessels. Is familiar with USCG regulations and researches as necessary to insure repair work is in compliance with equipment.
- Utilizes standard electrical tools and equipment such as volt meters, ammeters, watt meters; places and adjusts mechanical contacts and trippers and time-delay intervals of circuit breakers and relays using feeler gauges, dressing tools, and timing devises, uses this equipment to identify problems and performs work to complete any necessary repairs.
- Troubleshoots distribution circuits, as well as generating and controlling equipment, to locate and correct the causes of outages and improper operation.
- Installs and repairs marine distribution cables.
- Wires and rewires conduit and cable runs to motors and lights.
