Prep I Fabricator - Day & Swing Shift

SUMMARY

Prep is responsible for blade preparation before final assembly. The Prep Operator will complete mid and final prep operations using a series of different abrasive wheels, sanding belts, polishing compounds and fixtures to produce the desired blade finish for further processing or final assembly.

SCHEDULES:

Day Shift: Monday - Thursday, 6:00 am - 4:30 pm.

Swing Shift: Monday - Thursday, 4:15 PM - 2:15 AM, this includes a 30 minute paid lunch.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Comply with all standard safety practices, company rules and policies.

Verification of complete and accurate paperwork before further processing.

Visual inspection or parts pre and post completion of prep operations.

Understanding QA visual tolerances set by Buck Knives.

Complete all prep operations ensuring that all parts adhere to Buck QA standards.

Managing time between baders to ensure there is no disruption in final assembly.

Changing out wheels and belts on baders as needed.

Inform Lead/Supervisor of any and all quality deviations, mechanical issues, QA/engineering support needed and process nonconformities found.

Logging steps and accounting for time accurately within InvTrack.

Area cleanliness requirements are kept updated by each shift.

QUALIFICATIONS

Excellent communications skills and ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and management.

Excellent time management abilities.

Manual dexterity and ability to manipulate small parts repeatedly throughout the shift.

Visual blade inspection with a high degree of scrutiny.

Ability to lift 40lbs regularly.

Must be able to remain standing for long periods of time.

Must have the ability to discern where help/disposition is needed.

Ability to read and interpret work instructions.

Must possess a sense of urgency, accountability, and professionalism.

Able to work well independently and as a team with little supervision.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

GED/High School Diploma or related experience and training.

Experience working within a manufacturing environment a plus.

Experience with visual inspection or holding parts to visual standards is a plus.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to handle or feel parts; reach with hands and arms. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds for the duration of the shift.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. Hearing and eye protection is required while working on the production floor. The work environment may include office areas, manufacturing areas and warehouse/shipping areas.
