We are currently seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer 3 to work in a technical support role with highly skilled professionals on diverse project teams in a dynamic environment. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer 3, you will serve as a senior consultant to support our clients at the intersection of facilities management and climate resilience. You will leverage your deep experience and technical acumen to advise building owners and asset managers, providing objective assessments, recommendations, and strategic solutions related to MEP systems, building automation, operations and maintenance programs, and facilities improvements. Your scope will include technical due diligence, risk identification, process evaluation, and leading best practices for regulatory compliance and operational excellence. You may oversee or review the work of third-party vendors and service providers to ensure alignment with industry standards, client goals, and capital plans. Your advisory may also extend to helping clients develop incident response protocols, optimize facility operations, and build internal capability through training and process improvement recommendations.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
In this position, you will:
Serve as an advisor on building resilience projects delivering objective guidance and recommending best-in-class solutions for facility operations, maintenance, capital planning, compliance, and risk management.
Review facility condition and climate vulnerability assessments, O&M program evaluations, and incident reporting processes.
Develop recommendations for improving the climate resilience of building systems (mechanical, electrical, plumbing, controls, life safety, laboratory support) and provide technical review of proposed vendor/contractor activities or designs.
Advise clients on regulatory compliance, environmental and sustainability considerations, and the preparation of custom standard operating procedures (SOPs) and best practice documentation.
Provide technical mentoring and knowledge transfer to client teams, including the development of training materials, review of incident reports, process recommendations, and strategic asset management guidance.
Support clients in budgeting, planning, and execution of facility upgrades, maintenance programs, and operational best practices.
Demonstrate strong technical competence, knowledge of codes and regulations, and professional standards of practice to assigned consulting tasks.
Lead all work in accordance with company and client health and safety protocols.
Demonstrate the company's foundational safety behaviors.
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
Minimum Skills and Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
20+ years of experience with emphasis on facilities/critical infrastructure operations for life sciences, laboratories, or complex building environments.
Professional Engineer (PE) registration or certification, as applicable.
Demonstrated experience working in or advising owners or asset managers for laboratory, life science, or high-tech facilities.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present key findings and recommendations to clients and stakeholders.
Proficient in use of Microsoft 365 products including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint, and Visio.
Demonstrated ability to coordinate among multidisciplinary teams, manage third-party vendors, and communicate facility/system recommendations effectively.
Preferred Skills:
Experience with facilities management platforms such as Angus, CAFM, Maximo, Faciliworks, 360 Facility, or other CMMS/CAFM systems.
Significant experience with laboratory or life science facility environments, with understanding of unique compliance and operational requirements.
Expertise in SOP/program/process development, risk reviews, and programmatic improvement.
The salary range for this position in California is $90.00 - $110.00 per hour. Actual compensation will be based upon a variety of factors such as education, related work experience, certificates, skills, and current market conditions.
