The Opportunity:
Perkins Eastman Architects DPC seek Intermediate Project Designer for our New York, NY location. May telecommute up to one day a week.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assist in project feasibility development and evaluation of site, zoning, parking, build location, exterior systems of movement, and solar orientation.
- Assist in master planning services that include site and building components, test fits, interior systems of movement, blocking and stacking, programming, and planning.
- Assist in development of educational, research, and health science campuses.
- Assist in planning, design, development, and implementation of Research Facilities and Education laboratory.
- Assist in development of strategic facility assessment for educational facilities.
- Analyze comparative systems with engineers and consultants related to structural, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical disciplines.
- Work with specifications teams, consultants, and vendors to assist with technical specifications development.
- Assist Project Managers in developing statements of probable construction cost.
- Provide building information modeling (BIM) management of digital project components, including development of BIM execution plans.
- Assist with construction administration phase of projects, including independent submittal review, RFI investigation and response, and limited site observation.
- Lead sustainability management and research for projects, including incorporation of design elements, task level management, and scheduling specific alignment with sustainability goals and objectives and checklist development.
- Consult with domestic and international clients, under direct supervision of a licensed architect, to determine functional and spatial requirements of new structures or renovations and prepare information regarding design, specifications, materials, estimated costs, and construction timelines.
- Use computer-assisted design software and equipment to prepare interior and exterior project designs and plans.
- Produce interior design and visualization of Higher Education, Science and Technology, and Cultural Facilities environments.
- Assist Project Managers and studio teams with preparation of work plans and permit processes, including system component research.
- Perform design activities such as IBM, ANSI/ADA code research, material and building systems research, and laying out of program components.
- Refine design options and develop building details.
- Develop Reports and Client Presentations. Applicants may be required to submit a portfolio.
- Little local travel to job sites may be required.
Required Qualifications:
- Must have Bach of Architecture or rel field and 6 years rel exp in interior and exterior domestic and international design projects.
- In the alternative, must have Masters of Architecture or rel field and 5 years rel exp in interior and exterior design for domestic and international projects.
- Also requires the following skills (1 year experience in): Delivery of design visualization and concepts; design and documentation of local and international Higher Education, K-12, Science and Technology, and Cultural and Institutional projects; Programming, planning, design and documentation of medical simulation centers, vivaria (animal facilities), morgues, and medical research laboratories; developing the creative and technical processes throughout the life of a project, which includes conceptual development and design visualization, existing building survey and documentation, maintaining design continuity throughout construction documents, training and mentoring staff, preparing client presentations and design drawings; master planning of educational and research campuses; coordinating with consultant teams, generating design services proposals, revising project documents for design conformance and quality control, coordination of construction issues with clients, contractors, local officials;
- 2D software including AutoCAD, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe After Effects, Adobe InDesign, and Affinity Creative Suite; 3D software including Revit, Rhino, and SketchUp; V-ray and Enscape; Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Office, Newforma Project Center Grasshopper, Deltek Vision, and Power BI.
