Water Resources Engineer Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Water Resources Engineer to provide technical analysis and design services for a range of municipal, state, and federal projects, including Department of Defense initiatives. This role requires an individual who is highly skilled in water resources and stormwater management design, flood studies, culvert design, HEC-RAS analysis, bridge hydraulics, and hydrologic & hydraulic modeling. The position is heavily design-focused, and the successful candidate will be engaged in design activities every day.

Responsibilities

  • Perform various aspects of stormwater design as directed by a Senior Water Resources Engineer, including conceptual studies, design analyses, and calculations.
  • Conduct site design for buildings, subdivisions, and infrastructure projects, as well as design tasks related to business development activities such as responding to Requests for Proposals (RFPs).
  • Analyze and solve complex stormwater and flooding issues, providing reliable and cost-effective solutions.
  • Perform water systems analysis and modeling using various software programs.
  • Develop erosion and sediment control plans and strategies.
  • Design stormwater management facilities to support municipal, state, and federal/Department of Defense projects.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and clients, focusing on delivering quality results in a timely manner.
  • Assist with presentations to clients and the public, clearly and concisely explaining project benefits and technical solutions.
  • Prepare construction documents, including plans and specifications.
  • Prepare quantity take-offs and estimates for drainage projects.
  • Develop engineering reports and memorandums.
  • Collaborate with contractors and clients during the construction phase to resolve issues and communicate project requirements.
  • Perform technical work using various software applications, including Microstation, GEOPACK Drainage, Civil 3D, PondPack, StormCad, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, and ARC-GIS.
Essential Skills
  • 2-4+ years of civil/water resources engineering experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Civil, Environmental and Infrastructure Engineering, or Civil Engineering Technology.
  • Experience with stormwater design, including drainage, hydrology & hydraulics, site grading, roadway, stormwater ponds, bioretention, and floodplains.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, HEC-RAS, and MicroStation OpenRoads.
  • EIT (Engineer-in-Training) Certification or PE (Professional Engineer) License
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Proficiency with H&H modeling software such as HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, HY-8, Flowmaster, HEC-1, TR-20.
  • Experience with land disturbance permits and stormwater pollution prevention plans (SWPPP).
  • Ability to design complex open and closed storm drainage systems and stormwater management facilities.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively in a cohesive team environment.
  • Membership in professional societies such as ASCE, ACEC, AWRA.
Work Environment

The work is primarily sedentary and often performed in an office setting with lighting, heating, and ventilation. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $70000.00 - $100000.00/hr.
