Senior Project Engineer Fabrication & Process Equipment

Position Summary

We are seeking a tenured Project Engineer with a strong knowledge in mechanical design and fabrication of process equipment. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a hands-on, heavy industrial environment and has experience working with skid packages, thermal systems, and custom capital equipment.

You will be responsible for overseeing the engineering scope of complex projects from concept through to fabrication, ensuring technical accuracy, cost-effectiveness, and alignment with client specifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Project Engineering Manager and cross-functional teams to define project scope and engineering deliverables.
  • Review contract documents and translate them into actionable engineering tasks.
  • Select mechanical components and equipment based on performance, cost, and project requirements.
  • Oversee and review the design of thermal systems, including heat exchangers, thermal coils, and combustion equipment.
  • Ensure engineering packages are complete, accurate, and fabrication-ready.
  • Provide technical support during fabrication and installation phases.
  • Participate in design reviews and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., TSBC, ABSA).
  • Conduct short to medium-term site visits as needed to support project execution.
Must-Have Qualifications
  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline (e.g., Civil Engineering).
  • 5+ years of mechanical design and project engineering experience in a heavy industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Proven experience with custom-designed capital plant and process equipment.
  • Familiarity with combustion and thermal systems (e.g., burners, boilers, heat exchangers, pumps, compressors).
  • P.Eng designation or EIT status with a commitment to achieving P.Eng.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Inventor.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
Nice-to-Have Qualifications
  • Knowledge of piping and refractory design.
  • Exposure to large, multi-disciplinary capital projects.
  • Working knowledge of electrical engineering and instrumentation.
  • Experience interfacing with regulatory bodies and permitting processes.
  • History in thermodynamics or combustion processes.
Disqualifiers
  • Candidates with only consulting experience and no hands-on industrial exposure.
  • Preference for only new design work without interest in modifying existing systems.
  • Lack of experience in heavy industrial or fabrication environments.
  • Unwillingness to travel for site visits.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $48.07 - $67.31/hr.
