The property Management Division is hiring for a Maintenance Mechanic 4 (MM4) position. The position is located in Tumwater, WA. The employee in this position would be required to work throughout the state which also requires overnight stays during the scheduled work week. Roughly 42 work weeks of the year.

About the Position: This employee represents the Property Management Division and the Washington State Patrol; and will provide professional customer service to customers, vendors, contractors, peers, and employees.
This employee works as a team to maintain, repair, and certify static and portable truck scales.
This employee may oversee work performed by Vendors or Sub-Contractors on Agency equipment and facilities. This employee works alone or with other trades staff consisting of painting, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and other construction trades.
About the Division: The Facilities Management Section is responsible for maintaining all the facilities which are used to support the core mission of the Washington State Patrol. This position provides facility maintenance at district headquarters, detachment offices, truck weigh stations, radio communication sites, Shelton training academy, fire training academy, truck scales, drug scales, and other agency portable truck scales. Duties

Responsibilities:

  • Provide maintenance, repairs, and certification of static truck scales, portable truck scales, and digital balance gram scales, including the use of hand and power tools, welding, painting, electrical, and electronics testing.
  • Performs facility maintenance as needed, consisting of carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing, drywall, and locksmithing.
  • Reads plans and blueprints, inspects projects to ensure compliance with local codes and WSP regulations. Determines scope of work, materials needed, and cost estimates.
  • This position provides input to planning staff regarding scope of future projects. Consults with the construction staff for direction on installation details. May direct construction crews on site.
  • Provides facility support as requested by supervisor.
Work Setting, including hazards:
Operation of scale test truck, Class B CDL required. Operation of tractor and trailer, Class A CDL required. Hazards to include traffic and safe operation of equipment.
Static scale repairs: outside work environment, metal, concrete, climbing on ladders, using scissor lifts, electrical sign repair, and confined space environments. Hazards to include weather, traffic, electrical hazard, air quality, and extremely heavy test weights.
Interior work environment to include electrical testing and indicator calibration. Hazards to include high and low voltage currents.

Travel Requirements:
Requires overnight statewide travel during scheduled work week. Roughly 42 work weeks of the year. Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Must possess a valid, unrestricted Washington State Driver's License or able to obtain one within 30 days of employment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must possess the ability to read, understand, and apply working drawing and blueprints.
  • Demonstrate ability to use basic hand and power tools safely, effectively, and efficiently.
  • Must have 4+ years performing any of the following construction/building related trades: HVAC, carpentry, plumbing, concrete/masonry, painting, electrical, cabinetry, building security (locksmith, CCTV, card access, and intrusion alarms) to provide maintenance on buildings and grounds throughout the state.
    -OR-
    Must be a certified welder and have 4+ years welding.
    -OR-
    Must have 2+ years performing installation, repairs, and/or certifications of scales and associated equipment.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Possesses excellent customer service skills.
  • Works effectively with others, while promoting a cooperative environment.
  • Carefully observes and reports potential hazards, security issues and workplace safety concerns.
  • Follows all relevant policies and procedures.
  • Conveys a willingness to help and respects the opinion of others.
  • Promotes cooperation and an eagerness and capacity to learn new skills.

  • Must be able to lift 75 pounds repeatedly.
  • Must be able to climb a ladder.
  • Must be able to sit, stand and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Must be a self-starter who can see a project through to completion.
  • Must obtain a Class A CDL within two years of permanent hire. (Provided in house)
  • Must be qualified to certify fixed and portable truck weigh scales within two years of permanent hire. (Provided in house)
