Job Description
We are looking for a skilled mechanical/product-design engineer to join our team in developing innovative mixed reality (MR) input devices. As part of our cross-disciplinary team, you will collaborate with experts in electrical, mechanical, firmware and software roles while researching, developing and refining concepts into prototypes to test hypotheses that inform and define future products. This role requires expertise in both designing and building functional prototypes, including proficiency in integrated design, CAD, rapid prototyping and fabrication processes as well as a thorough understanding of when and how to implement the appropriate processes to create robust functional prototypes. You must be able to work with minimal guidance, demonstrate a high attention to detail, and possess strong problem-solving skills. You must be a self-starter, well-organized and have excellent communication skills.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Collaborate with engineering teams at Meta to solve complex design and UX challenges, employing mechanical and electro-mechanical design and fabrication skills Design and build prototypes to the appropriate level of fidelity, considering product requirements goals, and constraints with an outlook on how prototyping decisions translate into production Effectively employ computer aided design (CAD), sketching, and prototyping to clearly communicate design ideas and concept directions Effectively Communicate constraints, progress, and other critical project information Leverage both internal and external manufacturing resources to produce deliverables to an appropriate level of fidelity Ability to execute multiple streams of work simultaneously and independently balance and prioritize project workload to ensure success against project timeline constraints
Job Responsibilities:
Research, design, develop, manufacture, and test tools, engines, machines and other mechanical devices.
Research and analyze customer design proposals, specifications, manuals to determine time and cost feasibility to complete projects.
Investigate equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation and make recommendation to maintenance crew.
Assist drafters in developing the structural design of products using tools, equipment or software.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
1+ years of experience in a hands-on Engineering/Design role in a
1+ multi-disciplinary team with experience in consumer electronics
1+ product development prototyping
Proven experience executing multi-stage projects independently Organized and able to work toward tight timelines with multiple competing priorities.
Hands-on experience and knowledge of prototype development processes including: rapid prototyping, 3D printing, CNC machining, molding, casting, electrical prototyping, electromechanical integration CAD experience (NX, SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Rhino etc) Experience working closely with Electrical Engineering, with an understanding of how to prototype and integrate PCBs and electrical assemblies into mechanical systems Experience and enthusiasm for working on ambiguous problem statements or blue-sky development Team player who is able to work well and communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical teammates.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
2 - 5 years of product development experience, including early-stage conceptual design, detailed design for manufacturing and assembly at low-to-mid volumes, hands-on prototyping experience Systems-level engineering experience with complex integrated electromechanical assemblies Experience with working models with cosmetic and aesthetic requirements Understanding of Virtual Reality products and Metas products Softgoods development or prototyping experience Experience managing the work of manufacturing and design consultants Experience in NX CAD modeling system, and Team Center PDM Experience creating FPCA designs in conjunction with an electrical engineer Experience executing at a systems-level and working across a cross-functional organization including Engineering, Industrial Design, User Experience Research, etc.
Experience designing prototypes with various sensors Experience creating full stack (mechanical, electrical, firmware) prototypes with Arduino, Raspberry Pi or equivalent
