Provide a service of installation, repair, and maintenance of all building mechanical equipment throughout the district facilities for the purpose of providing a safe environment for students, staff, and patrons of Spokane Public Schools. Assist other crafts in the Mechanics, Welder and Support Operator trades when needed.

ResponsibilitiesPRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Repair and maintain kitchen equipment such as slicers, peelers, mixers, and sneeze guards. Repair mechanical components of kitchen appliances such as oven doors, hotboxes, and combi-ovens.
- Repair and maintain all grinders, drill presses, saws, jointers, planers, vises, lathes, wide belt sanders and industrial arts equipment, and milling machines.
- Maintain and install guards on all equipment as required for safety standards and codes.
- Maintain and repair Maintenance shop equipment and custom fabricate parts and tools as requested by other trades.
- Perform maintenance and repairs on specialized office equipment such as shredders, power staplers, and laminators.
- Repair and maintain building security equipment including; roll-up doors and overhead sectional doors, rolling and coiling gates, security/fire doors, access hatches.
- Repair and maintain gymnasium equipment including; bleachers, basketball backboard assemblies and hoists, manual cable hoisting apparatus, volleyball standards and anchors, gymnastics equipment and anchors.
- Repair and maintain stage equipment such as; stage rigging suspension systems, stage rigging, divider curtains, etc.
- Repair and maintain material handling systems; including carts, material lifting equipment, hoists and storage rack assemblies.
- Sharpen and maintain all district's cutting equipment, including saws, slicers, can openers etc.
- Repair and maintain bicycles that are used for the district Bicycle Awareness Program.
- Perform annual and routine maintenance on Emergency Generators. Test and monitor fluids and as well as tune-ups, replace spark plugs, wires, points, condensers.
- Repair, modify, and install fencing, gates and signage throughout the school district.
- Repair, modify, and install backstops, benches, and field sports equipment and other site furnishings.
- Repair and maintain playground equipment. Willing to become certified as a playground equipment inspector within one year of the hire date.
- Assist district welder with assembly, fabrication and installation of metal parts, pieces and equipment.
- Utilize computers and other communication devices.
- Observe safety rules and regulations.
- Know how to use all related hazardous materials required to perform work.
- Follow district procurement card and purchasing policy.
- Perform related duties as requested by supervisor.
SECONDARY RESPONISBILITES:
- Assist other crafts in the Support Operators group; including welder, small engine mechanic, vehicle fleet mechanic and support operators.
- Provide snow removal support as needed.
- Demonstrated ability and aptitude to perform the responsibilities listed.
- Demonstrated ability to perform all duties of a journeyman building mechanic.
- Familiar with and demonstrated ability to repair, maintain, and install all types of industrial arts equipment. Knowledge of equipment relating to a school setting is preferred.
- Familiar with and demonstrated ability to repair, maintain, and install all types of kitchen equipment. Knowledge of equipment relating to a school setting is preferred.
- Familiar with and demonstrated ability to repair, maintain, and install all types of gymnasium and preforming arts stage equipment and rigging. Knowledge of equipment relating to a school setting is preferred.
- Familiar with and demonstrated ability to repair, maintain, and install all types of material handling equipment.
- Familiar with and demonstrated ability to repair, maintain, and install all types of garage style doors, security gates, access hatches, etc.
- Ability to take and carry out directions with minimum supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain assignment logs and reports.
- Demonstrated ability to use computer systems and other communication devices.
- Ability to work in a safe manner, following safety procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to work at various heights from ladders and scaffolds. Physical ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Demonstrated successful experience developing and maintaining positive, professional working relationships with diverse groups of co-workers, staff, community, and others.
- Demonstrated skills in written and oral communication.
- Demonstrated ability to take and carry out directions with minimal supervision.
- Valid drivers license and acceptable driving record required.
- Relates positively to youth and adults of varying socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
MENTAL DEMANDS: Experiences multiple demands and multi-tasking; requires concentration and attention to detail.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS : Requires prolonged standing, sitting, bending, stooping, crawling, and other physical exertion; required to on ladders and roofs; requires safety awareness on construction, repair and emergency sites, may be requested to work off hours for emergencies; exposed to high noise levels from machines; may be exposed to potentially dangerous conditions; required to wear protective gear; required to work outdoors in inclement weather; required to lift and carry heavy supplies, materials and equipment up to (50) pounds; required to drive between sites.
