The Department of Applied Engineering, Safety & Technology in the College of Science & Technology welcomes applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning August 2026. Responsibilities include teaching, advising students, scholarly or creative work and department and university service. Actual assignments will depend upon department needs.
About the position:
Based upon expertise of the successful applicant, primary responsibilities will include teaching lecture and/or laboratory-based courses such as: Construction Project Management, Statics & Strength of Materials, Green Buildings & Sustainable Systems, Construction I, Construction II, Engineering Visualization, Architectural Drawing, Production Materials & Processes, or introductory drafting courses. Additionally, the position requires advising students; conducting scholarly work; and providing service to the department, university, and community. All members of the faculty also have the responsibility to accept those reasonable duties assigned to them within their fields of competence. Actual assignments will depend upon department needs.
Minimum qualifications required to be considered for appointment at the rank of Associate include having an earned doctorate and a minimum of five years of full-time teaching experience (or its equivalent) and scholarship commensurate with this rank.

Duties and Responsibilities
EFFECTIVE TEACHING AND PERFORMANCE OF PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Tenure Track faculty are responsible for effectively teaching students both in assigned courses and outside-the-classroom settings (e.g., student research, service learning, field activities and placements), advise students, and carry out other assigned professional responsibilities in support of student learning and success. The academic-year workload for full-time faculty is 24 workload hours and faculty must hold a minimum of five office hours per week on no fewer than three different days. Primary teaching responsibilities will be for undergraduate and/or graduate professional and laboratory-based courses in construction management and construction technology. Course content is likely to include some combination of the following: Construction Project Management, Construction Technology (Residential and Commercial), Green Building, Statics & Strength of Materials, Architecture, Engineering Visualization, Drafting Communications, or Materials Processing. Candidates must be willing to teach day, evening, and weekend classes on or off the Millersville campus using a variety of instructional strategies in face-to-face, web-enhanced, or online formats. All members of the faculty also have the responsibility to accept those reasonable duties assigned to them within their fields of competence. Actual assignments will depend upon department needs.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION:
The Department of Applied Engineering, Safety & Technology (AEST), in the College of Science and Technology, is comprised of 10 faculty members, one full-time secretary, two full-time laboratory technicians, and over 400 students collectively majoring or minoring in Applied Engineering & Technology Management (AETM), Automation & Robotics Engineering Technology (AURO), Manufacturing Engineering Technology (MFET), Occupational Safety and Environmental Health (OSEH), and Technology and Engineering Education (TECE). The department offers Associate's, Bachelor's, and Master's level degree programs. The Master's degree is a Master of Science in Technology & Innovation that has two concentrations-education and enterprise.
Osburn Hall, a dedicated facility for the Department, houses its classrooms, state-of-the-art laboratories, and offices. This campus center for the study of applied engineering, safety and technology is organized according to technology clusters.
Required Qualifications
- Doctorate in Construction Management, Technology, Education, or related field completed by date of eligibility for reappointment to second year (ideally 12-31-26).
- Expertise in construction management/construction technology along with the ability to teach some combination of laboratory and lecture-based courses essential to sustaining the program.
- Earned technical undergraduate degree in construction technology, construction management, industrial technology, engineering technology, applied engineering, technology management, technology and engineering education, or construction-related discipline.
- Willingness and commitment to supervising, maintaining, and improving laboratory facilities.
- Willingness and commitment to teach in a laboratory-based, hands-on teaching/learning environment and teach day, weekend and evening courses as well as in a variety of formats including online as required.
- Excellent oral, written, interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficiency in the application of information technology relevant to the teaching and learning process.
- Evidence of a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Commitment to the promotion of a safe and healthy learning and research environment.

Preferred Qualifications
- Earned doctorate in Construction Management, Technology, Education, or related field.
- Post-secondary teaching experience.
- Industrial experience in the construction field.
- Documented effectiveness in teaching or training.
- Secondary expertise in project management, computer-aided drafting & design (CADD), architecture, or materials processing.
- Experience supervising, maintaining, and improving laboratory facilities.
- Experience participating in and/or advising student clubs.
- Experience with program assessment and accreditation.
- Involvement with professional associations such as Association of Technology Management & Applied Engineering (ATMAE), Associated Builders & Contractors (ABC), etc.
- Supervision of interns and/or student teachers.
Essential Functions
- Work is normally performed in a typical interior/classroom environment.
- Teach courses face-to-face at the higher education level using lectures, demonstrations, class discussion, using online tools and/or equipment and/or other appropriate tools appropriate modes of education delivery.
- Speak in a clear voice and hear spoken words.
- Read and write the written word and higher-level statistics/mathematics.
- Manage classroom activities.
- Record and calculate grades, prepare course outline and syllabus, develop course and lesson plans, engage in the selection of appropriate textbooks and other teaching aids necessary to the delivery of instruction.
- Use computer for email, obtain information on websites, prepare class documents, grade papers, submit final grades online and other duties related to teaching and advising students and serving the department, college, university, and community.
