Job Summary
Job Description
Responsible for implementing strategic sourcing initiatives to drive operational efficiencies, cost savings, and contract compliance at Metro. Manage key spend categories through detailed market research analysis, supplier qualification and contract negotiation. Works under the general direction of the Senior Purchasing Manager and directly supervises the strategic sourcing team.
Examples of Duties:
- Develop and implement strategic sourcing process improvement initiatives to drive value, provide cost savings to realize operational efficiencies.
- Implement category management strategies for key high-dollar, high-risk spend categories by collaborating with internal stakeholders to define requirements, conducting market research, analyzing price and producer indexes, monitoring industry best practices.
- Develop robust cost savings strategies for Purchasing Division, including total cost of ownership (TCO) models for spend under management.
- Develops supplier relationship management strategies for key spend categories.
- Manages long-term, complex contracts collaborating with the Legal Department
- Analyze data and distribute key performance indicators (KPIs) for Purchasing Division.
- Prepares, manages, and oversees routine and complex bid solicitations, analyses, and recommends contract awards for a wide range of goods and services, including major chemicals and capital equipment.
- Participates in the employee selection process and evaluates the performance of purchasing personnel; provides training, counseling, and discipline, as necessary.
- Collaborates with stakeholders and employees for future purchasing needs and solutions Build and develop relationships with key internal stakeholders.
- Develops training materials and trains staff and stakeholders on strategic purchasing strategies.
- Assists in maintaining the goals, standards and objectives of the Purchasing Division and Metro. Reviews and recommends changes in purchasing policies and procedures as well as process improvements.
- Keeps informed of laws, regulations, and developments affecting Metro purchasing objectives and others as needed and/or assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Strategic sourcing and category management strategies
- Purchasing laws, rules, regulations, and areas affecting purchasing activities
- MS Office software
Skilled at:
- Developing complex solicitations, evaluating proposals, and selecting vendors
- Managing strategic sourcing and spend categories
- Negotiating complex contracts with a variety of vendor types
- Working with an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software platform
- Managing complex data analyses
- Written and verbal communication
- Presenting recommendations to a diverse audience
- Active and empathetic listening skills
- Training and mentoring staff
- Managing disagreements, deescalating conflicts, and negotiating win win solutions
- Project management including work planning, resource allocation, and progress reviews through to project completion

Education
Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, business administration or related field. A combination of education and relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
