The Opportunity
WSDOT is currently seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Mechanic 2 in Davenport, WA. This position is responsible for providing the necessary journey-level repairs and maintenance to keep the WSDOT equipment fleet in a safe and serviceable condition, by performing journey-level inspection, troubleshoot, diagnoses, service, and repairs on all types of equipment used in highway maintenance or heavy and/or industrial/commercial equipment, or motorized farm equipment.
What to Expect
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Heavy Equipment Mechanic 2 will:
- Perform preventive maintenance and repair, at a journey-level, to a wide variety of highway maintenance equipment, both in the shop and in the field.
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair all vehicle systems such as electrical systems, brake systems, steering and suspension systems, hydraulic systems, cooling systems, etc.
- Perform preventive maintenance to include regularly scheduled maintenance on equipment as needed.
- Complete seasonal mounting, repairs and metal fabrication to sanders, snowplows, self-propelled brooms, weed sprayers, tractor mounted mowers and other specialized seasonal equipment.
- Prepare newly delivered equipment for service.
- Perform maintenance and repair to the Keller ferry as needed.
Qualifications
To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required :
- High school graduation or possession of a GED certificate
- Three (3) years of experience in the performance of preventative maintenance and repairs assisting a journey level mechanic, including two (2) years as an Equipment Technician 2 or equivalent.
OR
- One (1) year of experience as a journey-level mechanic maintaining and repairing heavy-duty equipment.
OR
- Journey-level standing as heavy equipment and/or industrial/commercial mechanic as demonstrated by completion of a recognized apprenticeship; or by journey-level standing as recognized by a labor union.
In addition, the following are required:
- Ability to operate shop equipment such as welders, drill press, grinder, hyd. press, hoist, air tools, power tools, forklifts, computerized diagnostic equipment, hand tools, and jacks for the purpose of repairing and maintaining equipment
- A valid Class A Commercial Drivers License (CDL), without air brake restrictions, without manual transmission restriction and with endorsement N. Or the Ability to obtain within 6 months from date of hire.
It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:
- Graduate from a tech school or apprentice program specializing in Automotive or Heavy equipment repair.
- ASE certifications in Automotive or Truck repair, fabrication and welding experience and or training certificate, hydraulic system experience.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft word, excel and other computer skills.
