Purpose: The Lead Maintenance Mechanic serves as an organizational and operational leader, helping to triage, prioritize and assign tasks to a small Maintenance Mechanic team, and insures proper and appropriate procedures and policies are employed in the Mechanic operations. As a working member of the Maintenance Mechanic team, the Mechanic who has been selected as the Lead does not evaluate or discipline, but rather provides feedback the Director of Sites & Facilities.
Examples of Duties and Responsibilities
- Reviews and prioritizes work orders and instructions for Maintenance Mechanic work that comes from the Director of Sites and Facilities, the foreman, and/or directly from building administrators, either verbally or in writing.
- Assigns orders to the team of Maintenance Mechanics, based on prioritization and available resources. Provides feedback on work performed as necessary, but does not engage in evaluation or discipline.
- As a Maintenance Mechanic, the Lead also performs all maintenance work as required, using all hand tools and power tools as necessary.
- Inspects equipment and machinery to determine proper functioning and reports recommendations to the Director of Sites and Facilities or the foreman.
- Uses all trade related diagnostic equipment to insure proper operation and calibration of equipment and machinery.
- Performs building maintenance and alteration work.
- Moves equipment, furnishings, and other district items as needed.
- Assists with snow removal.
- Makes repairs to all department equipment as needed.
- Ability to work under emergency conditions to effect repairs with expediency and due consideration of clients and conditions.
- Other related projects within this general description of duties may be assigned by the Director.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
- Able to apply for local building permits.
- Responds to, as needed at any time for emergency calls, overtime, or special needs falling out of normal working hours.
- Project a positive image for the school district at all times.
- Performs related duties as required
- Must possess a thorough knowledge of building codes and mechanical repair trade.
- Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Must have ability to work independently as well as knowledge of electric, plumbing, drywall repair, masonry work, and carpentry.
- Must demonstrate the ability to work from sketches, plans, read and interpret blue prints and schematics and to understand and effectively follow oral and written instructions.
- Must demonstrate skill in the use of tools, materials and equipment common to the trades.
- Demonstrate the ability to lead others when being assisted by others within the class or related classes.
- Must be a high school or trade school graduate.
- Must have five (5) years experience in the trades.
- Two (2) years experience in commercial/industrial maintenance preferred, some experience in educational facilities a plus.
Channel of Authority/Organizational Relationships
The Lead Maintenance Mechanic reports to the Director of Sites and Facilities.
WAGES: Grade 6 in the Collective Bargaining Agreement
Work Year: 52 weeks; 6:30am - 3:00pm; Monday-Friday
