Position Overview:

We are seeking a skilled CAD Drafter/Detailer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for creating detailed 2D drawings and 3D models of custom automation equipment and components using SolidWorks, while ensuring alignment with manufacturing processes through our ERP system. This position plays a key role in bridging design intent with production readiness, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and manufacturability.

Key Responsibilities:

Create accurate 2D mechanical drawings and 3D models of automation machinery, components, and assemblies using SolidWorks.

Interpret engineer sketches, design concepts, and markups to produce detailed manufacturing documentation.

Prepare and maintain bill of materials (BOMs), part numbers, and item metadata in the ERP system to ensure seamless handoff to manufacturing and purchasing.

Collaborate with mechanical engineers and production teams to ensure drawings meet design intent and are optimized for fabrication.

Revise and update drawings to reflect engineering changes, manufacturing feedback, or customer revisions.

Apply proper dimensioning, tolerancing (GD&T), and annotation standards per ASME Y14.5 or company guidelines.

Ensure all designs comply with company, customer, and industry standards for safety, durability, and performance.

Support document control processes by organizing and managing drawing files and version histories.

Requirements:

2+ years of experience as a CAD drafter/detailer in an industrial, automation, or manufacturing setting.

Proficient in SolidWorks, including assemblies, configurations, and drawing creation.

Experience working with manufacturing ERP systems (e.g., Epicor, JobBOSS, NetSuite, etc.) to manage BOMs and engineering data.

Understanding of mechanical fabrication methods including machining, welding, sheet metal, and assembly.

Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, mechanical schematics, and technical documentation.

Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects with shifting priorities.

Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Associate degree or technical diploma in Drafting, Mechanical Design, or a related field.

Knowledge of automation components such as conveyors, pneumatic systems, actuators, or robotics.

Experience with PDM/PLM systems and document control processes.

Familiarity with Lean manufacturing or Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles.
