The successful candidate will operate, monitor, and control wastewater treatment equipment using manual operations or complex computerized systems. They will troubleshoot all wastewater equipment, systems, and processes with limited supervision. The Operations and Maintenance (O&M) facilities at WPTP are currently undergoing major capital improvements expected to continue over the next 10 years. The candidate will be a part of a flexible and dynamic team responsible for providing expertise and support to maintain continuous effective wastewater operations. The ability to communicate clearly and effectively with the public, fellow team members, other treatment plant staff, and other King County work groups to accomplish work requirements is a must. They will maintain and strive toward intra-team and cross-team support and cooperation daily. As the treatment plants operate 24/7/365, the ability to work varied shift schedules is both essential and required. As a mission critical employee, an individual within the operations group is expected to report for duty when required.

Provide lead direction and technical assistance to maintenance mechanical staff. Lead responsibilities include but are not limited to determining work assignments, work priorities, work schedules, training, participating in hiring and providing feedback on performance evaluations. Technical duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to training, troubleshooting, repairing and maintenance of mechanical equipment and systems.
Inspect work in progress to ensure that maintenance works meets trades standards, schedules are met and safe working practices are adhered to; monitor work quality and quantity; and provide suggestions to supervisor and other staff on how to improve methods and solve problems.
Review and evaluate work orders to determine work scheduling and priorities; organize, prepare, maintain and verify accuracy of equipment history records and ensure that work is being performed in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
Making decisions and facilitating communications between work groups as required.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge of journey level mechanical maintenance or millwright work experience (four years) in an industrial maintenance environment
Advanced knowledge of and experience in the application hydraulics, welding and rigging techniques and principles;
Knowledge and experience in life cycle analysis including root cause analysis
Knowledge and experience in heavy equipment mechanical maintenance repair work and replacement criteria
Knowledge and experience working with industrial safety standards and procedures related to mechanical maintenance work
Knowledge of supervisory techniques and principles including human resources techniques and principles
Oral and written communication skills; ability to read, write, and follow oral and written instructions
Knowledge and experience in applying maintenance planning and scheduling techniques and principles
Experience in equipment operation and installation
Experience in welding, soldering, brazing, metal inert gas (MIG), tungsten inert gas (TIG), and metallurgy
Skill in troubleshooting and problem solving equipment and machinery issues with limited documentation
Skill in working in a team environment and with employees in skilled trades classifications
Skill in using a computer and related software; skill in operating power and hand tools
Skill in working independently

- Additional licenses, certifications and other requirements determined to be necessary to meet the business needs of the employing unit may be required.
- Work Location : West Point Treatment Plant - 1400 Discovery Park Blvd. Seattle, WA 98199 and West Offsite Facilities.
- Work Schedule: This full-time position works a 40-hour work week. This position is covered under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is overtime eligible. This position requires flexibility to work all shift schedules and report during adverse or inclement weather conditions.
- Union Representation : This position is represented by S.E.I.U. 925 (Wastewater Treatment Division).
- Physical Requirement : Incumbents perform field work at a wastewater treatment plant and associated facilities and are required to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, use ladders, and there is exposure to hazardous chemicals and noxious odors and high noise levels.
- Workplace Exposure: All weather conditions in an industrial wastewater environment. Will be around chemicals, loud noise, and biohazards. Will be entering confined spaces, and will need to wear a respirator.
- Duration : This recruitment aims to fill a Special Duty Assignment position for up to 3 years in duration.
