The client is a leading designer and manufacturer of highly engineered locking systems. As they expand into next-generation IoT-enabled products, they are looking for an Engineering Technician to join their innovative, hands-on engineering team.
As an Engineering Technician, you will support the prototyping, testing, and assembly of our electromechanical locking systems. This is a hands-on role for someone with a strong mechanical and electrical background who enjoys working in a fast-paced shop environment. Please note that this role is required to be on-site at least four days per week at the company headquarters in Plainview, NY.
Job Duties and Responsibilities- Fabricate precision components using manual and CNC machines to engineering specifications.
- Assist in developing and assembling mechanical systems and subassemblies from detailed prints and 3D models.
- Read and interpret mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, and electrical schematics.
- Perform electromechanical integration and testing of prototypes and systems.
- Conduct electrical wiring, circuit testing, and basic troubleshooting using a multimeter.
- Support the creation of technical documentation, 3D models/drawings, and instructions for manufacturing and product testing.
- Assist engineers in product testing, troubleshooting, and iterative improvement of mechanical components to build, modify or refine prototypes.
- Collect and organize data from experiments and product validation activities.
- Contribute to design reviews and team meetings, offering input and learning from feedback.
- Maintain accurate project files and design documentation throughout the development process. Ensure designs meet system requirements through proper verification methods.
- 2+ years of experience in a technical role involving fabrication, mechanical assembly, or prototyping.
- Proficient in mechanical assembly techniques and use of hand and power tools.
- Able to operate manual mills/lathes and CNC equipment with minimal supervision.
- Skilled in reading mechanical drawings and electrical schematics.
- Familiarity with basic electrical principles and testing methods.
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills across mechanical and electrical domains.
- Familiarity with operating CNC machines, manual mills/lathes, or other shop tools.
- Strong interest in hands-on work, prototyping, and mechanical problem-solving.
- Good communication skills and a collaborative mindset. Detail-oriented, organized, and eager to learn.
- Experience with Fusion 360 or similar CAD software.
- Knowledge of CAM and CNC programming is a plus.
- Fine pitch soldering experience with SMD components is desirable.
- Background in robotics, access control, or consumer electromechanical products is a bonus.
